(i) -�orviceman p serviceman means a person of arry rank ( nlisted or officer) who is now serving in the military or Ravai Torces (Army, Navy Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States. (2) veteran. A veteran means a person who has served in the military or naval forces of the United States in world War 11 and—F has been discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable b Families of Servicemen or veterans A family' shall mean a natural family consisting of a family head and one or more persons related to the head by Dioddmarriage or adoption itidoes not mean a group of unrelated persons living together, Todgers or persons living alone Such related groups shall be considered the families of servicemen or veterans under the following .persons (1) The veteran or serviceman is living with' the family (2) reasonveteran a dutyserviceman assignment, employmentnatural oraschooleattendanceor cinaanotherelocalityi,torshospitalizationabsent from home by (3) The veteran or serviceman, a natural family head, is permanently absent from his family by reason of death (during or subsequent to military or naval service), divorce, separation desertion, or permanent hospitalization (The remarriage of a widow widower or divorced spouse of a veteran or serviceman shall terminate that person s status as his family ) c Distressed Families of Servicemen and Veterans Families of servicemen and veterans are 'distressed' within the meaning of this contract it they are in need or housing for any one of the reasons set forth below and they are unable to find in the area adequate housing within their financial reach, (1) They are actually without housing of any ]rind for themselves and their families in the locality, (2) They are living in quarters not designed for family occupancy (for instance, no cooking facilities provided) (3) They have been evicted or are to be evicted, (4) They have lived doubled up with another family while a member was in the armed forces and wish to establish their own household upon that member s return or (5) They have a dwelling which is totally unsatisfactory for their use because of some unusual hardship affecting the family - such as a health condition aggravated by the housing and a doctor has ordered removal, (6) They are student veterans temporarily housed (pending availability of accommodations in a project operated by an educational institution) but paying a rent beyond their ability to continue paying The educational institution must however assure that the dwelling vacated will be reoccupied by the family of a veteran or serviceman (it should be noted that eviction proceedings need not have been started against student veterans in such cases ) Familses of servicemen and veterans are not "distressed' within the meaning of these regulations if they are in need of housing because (1) They live in a substandard house and simply wish to find a better place to live, or (2) They are paying more rent than would be chargedrn the project and they want to move in order to reduce it (A family which cannot continue to pay the rent for it present quarters and is being or is about -to be legally evicted for non-payment of rent will 'qualify under 3 above, while student veterans may qualify under (G) above) d Distressed sing�le Veterans Attendi2yp ducational Institutions.This includes veterans who do not have and cannot find a place to live and who desire houonly whileI g accommodations for themselves ding an educational or training institution They shall be admitted only to accommodations designed fothea are attenr single person occupancy They may or may not be receiving educational or training benefits under the 'G I Bill of Rights' e Non-veteran Faculty Members_ This includes non-veteran faculty members necessary for the program of teaching at educational snstitlitionS furnishing education and training to veterans under Title 11 of the servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1844 as amended 2 ElipQibillty for Admission - Family dwellings Admission shall be limited strictly to the following a [listressed ramifies of veterans b Distressed families of serviceman. c Families of non-veteran faculty members, not in excess of 5 percent of the units furnished under this contract, operated by an educational institution or 5 percent of the units occupied by student veterans in projects operated by other local bodies. 3 El€gibrlrty for Admission - gormotories Admission shall be limited strictly to the following: a.
