HomeMy WebLinkAbout7751 RESOLUTION NO 7751 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE SAN BERNARDINO REGIONAL ENERGY PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GAS COMPANY, AND SAN BERNARDINO COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS TO BE KNOWN AS THE "ENERGY PARTNERSHIP" WHEREAS, the Energy Partnership, representing the participating City of Redlands, supports "energy efficiency" initiatives, policies, and construction standards in order to ensure that our coiminunities follow and encourage sustainable practices, and WHEREAS, local demand for electricity has grown, and it is expected that demand for electricity will continue to grow in the near future to support a growing population and economy, and WHEREAS, because residents and businesses spend significant amounts for energy, it makes economic sense and good public policy to encourage energy efficiency in the City of Redlands, and WHEREAS, energy efficiency programs enhance our enviroiunent by improving air quality, reducing greenhouse gases and othei pollution, and conserving natural resources, and WHEREAS, it is vital for our community to keep spending locally and to encourage innovations in the way we behave, build, and incorporate energy into our everyday business and personal lives, and WHEREAS, there is a growing movement within California coinimunities and businesses to improve everyday practices and create more sustainable and "greener" cities, and WHEREAS, the communities comprising the Energy Partnership seek to promote innovative methods and state-of-the-art technologies used in the design and construction of new residential and commercial buildings within the region, in order to bring energy and natural resource consumption in line with oul sustainability goals, and WHEREAS, San Bernardino Council of Goveriments ("SBCOG") has been identified by their participating jurisdictions to enter into an agreement with Southern California Gas Company("SCG") and Southern California Edison("SCE") on their behalf to represent therm and implement the Eneigy Partnership, and WHEREAS, the Energy Partnership brings together the City of Redlands, SCE, SCG, and the Energy Partnership member agencies in a cooperative program to promote energy efficiency, iegional sustainability goals, and collaboration, 1 I\cclerk\Resolutions\Res 7700 7799\7751 Energy Partnership.docx NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AS FOLLOWS Section I The City Council hereby determines that A The above recitations are true and correct, B The City of Redlands designates SBCOG to implement the mission of the Energy Partnership, C The City of Redlands supports a commitment to sustainable practices through energy efficiency, and will provide leadership and guidance in promoting, facilitating, and instituting such practices in the region, D The City of Redlands supports and endorses the Energy Partnership (a SCE and SCG Local Govenunent Partnership) as an effective method to help meet long-term regional economic and environmental goals, E The City of Redlands will naive one or more individuals to the Energy Partnership working group that will review progress regularly with SCE and SCG, and F The City of Redlands, with the assistance of SCE and SCG, will identify and support implementing the suite of programs and pro3ects within the City of Redlands' municipal facilities and community energy efficiency and sustainability goals Section 2 The Quality of Life Department Director, and the Director's designee, is hereby authorized, on behalf of the City, to execute all necessary documentation, correspondence, and reports for the purposes of administering the City's participation in the Energy Partnership Program ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 18th day of July, 2017 Paul W Foster, Mayor ATTEST. armetonaldson, City Clerk 2 1\cclerk\Resolutions\Res 7700 7799/7751-Energy Partnerstup.docx I, Jeanne Donaldson, City Clerk of the City of Redlands,hereby certifies that the foregoing resolution was adopted by the City Council, at a regular meeting thereof, held on the 18th day of July, 2017 by the following vote AYES Councilmembers Harrison, Barich, Tejeda, Mayor Foster NOES None ABSENT Councilmember Gilbreath ABSTAIN None ijo e Donaldson, City Clerk 3 I lcclerk\Resoluhons\Res 7700 7799/7751 Energy Parcnersiup.docx
