Dear Sir:
The following is in reference to the conversation you
had on November 19, 1951, with Mr. A. B. Ruggles of this
office concerning city-owned property adjacent to State
Road VIII-SBd-26--R1d, in the vicinity of the reservoir.
The State proposes to convert the existing highway
from Crescent Avenue easterly to a point 2.3 miles east of
the east city limits of Redlands into a freeway. Detailed
plans have not been completed; however , studies should be
advanced so that portions of the required right of way and
access rights can be acquired this fiscal year.
It has come to our attention that the City of Redlands
proposes to convey to Mr. A. F. Wickes a certain strip of
land, 25 feet in width, adjacent to the southerly side of
the existing highway and opposite our Engineer' s Station
519+00. The existing right of way, to accommodate the
proposed improvement, will necessarily be widened to the
south to include the above mentioned 25-foot strip of land
for a depth of approximately 40 feet, containing 0.02 of an
acre. This parcel of land is shown on the attached map
colored in red. The State of California hereby requests
the City of Redlands to execute the attached grant deed in
favor of the people of the State of California for the
required 0.02-acre parcel of land. Said deed contains a
reservation of access rights in favor of the State. Your
consideration of this proposal will be sincerely appreciated.
