RESOLUTION NO. 7827
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
APPROVING THE APPOINTMENT OF AN INTERIM FIRE CHIEF
WHEREAS, Section 21221(h) of the California Government Code authorizes a city council
to approve an interim appointment to a vacant position when a recruitment is underway to fill a
permanent appointment for a position for which specialized skills are required; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redlands is currently recruiting to fill the vacant Fire Chief
position, and an appointment is necessary in order for the City to effectively and efficiently manage
the Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, the selected Interim Fire Chief is a retired Ca1PERS annuitant and has the
necessary specialized skills and expertise, and prior experience with a municipality, to perform the
duties of Fire Chief;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands as
follows:
Section 1. The City Council hereby appoints Lawrence E. Waterhouse III (Mr. Waterhouse)
as Interim Fire Chief for the City of Redlands commencing April 8, 2018, for the period up to, and
no later than, January 31, 2019.
Section 2. Mr. Waterhouse shall not exceed a combined period of 960 hours for all
employers in any fiscal year.
Section 3. Mr. Waterhouse's compensation shall not exceed the City Council -approved
maximum, monthly base salary for the position of Fire Chief as listed on the publicly available City
pay schedule for the position of Fire Chief, divided by 173.333 to equal an hourly rate.
Section 4. Mr. Waterhouse shall not receive any benefits, incentives, compensation in lieu
of benefits, or any other forms of compensation, in addition to the hourly rate to be paid to Mr.
Waterhouse.
