HomeMy WebLinkAbout7922 RESOLUTION 7922 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ESTABLISHING A REWARD FUND FOR INFORMATION RESULTING IN THE APPREHENSION AND CONVICTION OF PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FATAL HIT AND RUN COLLISION WHEREAS, the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Redlands shall be considered by this Resolution, and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Redlands that the City Council offer a reward to help provide nnformation leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible of the driver involved in the fatal hit and run collision with Crossing guard Leonard Ortiz located on Orange Street and Colton Avenue that occurred on October 16, 2018, and WHEREAS, the Redlands Police Department currently has an account with money donated from conununity members for rewards pertaining to the apprehension of wanted suspects, and WHEREAS, the Redlands Police Department is requesting to take five thousand dollars ($5,000) out of the account and offer it as a reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the driver involved in the fatal hit and run, and WHEREAS, Redlands' citizen have expressed a desire to donate an additional five thousand dollars ($5,000) to the Redlands Police Community Foundation to be used specially to increase the reward amount to ten thousand dollars ($10,000), and WHEREAS, the reward amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) shall be offered, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands as follows Section 1. The City Council of the City of hereby offers a reward in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible of the drive involved in the fatal hit and run collision with Crossing guard Leonard Ortiz located on Orange Street and Colton Avenue Section 2 The City shall pay all funds deposited in this reward account to the person or persons who submit to law enforcement officials inforination detenninatively resulting in the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for the fatal hit and run collision Issuance of rewards from this account shall be subject to the following conditions A No reward shall be paid until the perpetrator(s) is legally convicted under a judgment which is final, or, if for any reason the case is not tried or is otherwise disposed of, upon proof the perpetrator(s) committed or participated in the 1 L 1ca\Reso17922 RPD Reward Punds.doc commission of the aforesaid crime B In no event shall the reward or combination of rewards exceed the amount deposited in the account established for such purpose, regardless of the number of perpetrators involved in the act and regardless of the number of persons who supply information leading to the apprehension and conviction of such perpetrators C Officers and employees of the City of Redlands, officers of state and local police forces and officers of the federal government shall not be eligible to receive any reward from this account D A reward may be apportioned between two or more persons who give information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the perpetrator(s) ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 20 d ov er, 2018 Paul Barich, Mayor Pro Tempore ATTEST Je e Donaldson, City Clerk 2 L 1ca\Reso17922 RPD Reward Funds.doc I, Jeanne Donaldson, City Clerk of the City of Redlands, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the 20"'day of November, 2018 by the following vote AYES Councilmembers Barich, Tejeda, Momberger, James NOES None .ABSTAIN None ABSENT Mayor Foster JeataWDonaldson, City Clerk 3 L'1ca\Reso17922 RPR Reward Funds.doc
