Subject: Change in Air Conditioning system to accommodate prospective new office arrangement in Auditorium on second floor. Dear Mr. Merritt: We have reviewed the plans for the office arrangement to be constructed on the second floor in the Auditorium with respect to air conditioning and have arrived at the following changes. Reduce the tonnage now planned for the Auditorium from 16.4 to 11.6. The differ- ence of 4-8 tons lowers the 40 horse power motor of the present refrigeration compressor to 30 horse power, however, the size of the compressor remains much the same. There is a saving, but, for example, the model number of the present compressor is 3JF6-t7100 and the model number of the compressor used with the 30 horse pouter motor would be 3J176-100. The evaporative condenser can be reduced in size. In view of the fact that the new offices will face South and Forth as well as in the middle of the area, cooling demands for each of these three sections will vary. The preferred installation would be to adapt three separate zones but in view of the additional cost which would be quite high the entire area could be served from the one zone now existing and rate the supply air to each office as well as can be done to suit the occupants. This operation can in no way compare to a zoned system, however, there are probably as many systems in operation today on this basis as on a zoned basis. The existing 10 ceiling diffusers can be removed and ducts installed to bring the air down to the new ceiling level. Additional outlets can be installed to serve the offices to be located in the center of the area. New ceiling diffusers would have to be used, and a few return air grills installed to permit circulation from the office which has no door to the hall. The difference in cost to rearrange the existing duct system, as compared to the savings outlined above, is $43-00 additional; however, this amount is not that Carrier — :..GT HUS mRnn -2- City Hall Redlands, California August 21, 1956 appreciable to change the price of the contract, therefore, we are willing to perform this modification without additional cost to the original job.
