Box 1499 SACRAMENTO 7 VIII--SBd-26-R1d City Council City of Redlands Redlands, California RELINQUISa1ENT OF PORTIONS OF STATE HIGHNTAY Gentlemen: In conformance with Section 73 of the Streets and Highways Code, there is hereby filed with the City of Redlands the attached certified copy of the vote of the California Highway Commission relinquishing described portions of State highway to said City of Redlands. Relinquishment of these portions of State highway becomes effective upon the recordation with the County Recorder by the State of a certi- fied copy of the Highway Commission's action. The Division of Highways district office in San Benardino will immediately upon recordation of the relinquishment inform your council thereof, giving you recordation data. Your attention is also directed to the requirements of Section 100.9 of the Code, that where State highways are relocated in such a manner as to bypass a city or business district, the directional and other signs erected by the State on the old highway must be left in place when such highway is relinquished, and must thereafter be main- tained by the local agency or agencies which have jurisdiction over the relinquished roadway. RELINQUISHMENT OF STATE HIGHWAY IN THE CITY OF REDLANDS, ROAD VIII-SBd-26-Rld WHEREAS, that portion of the State highway within the City of Redlands along Central Avenue and Ocean to Ocean Highway between the west city limit and Morrison Avenue, road VIII--SBd-26-R1d, hereinafter particularly described, has been superseded by a change in the location of said highway; and WHEREAS, the California Highway Commission on July 24, 1957 adopted a resolution declaring that certain section of State Highway Route 26 in the City of Redlands and the County of San Bernardino, between Hunts Lane and the East City Limit of Redlands, road VIII-SBd-26-A,Rld to be a freeway; and WHEREAS, the State of California has acquired rights -of way for and has constructed certain frontage roads, street connections and reconstructed certain city streets in the City of Redlands between the west city limit and east city limit, road VIII-SBd-26--R1d, in connection with said freeway; and WHEREAS, by freeway agreement dated August 6, 1957 and supplemental agreements dated September 1, 1959, March 17, 196o and May 2, 1961 between the City of Redlands and the State of California, the City agreed to accept control and maintenance. over the frontage roads, street connections and relocated city streets, or otherwise altered city streets, and to accept title thereto upon relinquishment thereof to said City by the State of California; and WHEREAS, this Commission has found and determined, and does hereby find and determine, that it is desirable and in the public interest that said portions of superseded State highway and frontage roads, street connections and relocated and recon- structed city streets be relinquished to the City of Redlands for use as city streets; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS VOTED by the California Highway Commission that it relinquish and it does hereby relinquish to the City of Redlands effective upon the recordation of a certi- fied copy hereof with the Recorder of San Bernardino County, that portion of superseded State highway and those portions of frontage roads, street connections and relocated and reconstructed. city streets in the City of Redlands, together with the right of way and appurtenances thereof, described as follows; All of the existing State highway along Central Avenue and Ocean to Ocean Highway between the west city limit of Redlands and Morrison Avenue, (Segment No. 1) and Segments Passed by C.H.C. AUG 2 31962 No. 3 to 8 and 11 to 26, inclusive, shown shaded as indicated on an index map and 15 detail maps, filed for record on Sep- tember 8, 1961 in State Highway Map Book No, 5, Pages 56 to 71, inclusive, Records of said County, which lie between Texas Street and the east city limit of the City of Redlands„ The length of superseded State highway hereby relinquished is 3.10 miles and the length of frontage roads, street connec- tions and relocated and reconstructed city streets hereby relin- quished is 1.86 miles, making a total length of State highway hereby .relinquished of 4.96 miles, EXCEPTING AND RESERVING unto the State of California, any and all rights of ingress to and egress from the highway hereby relinquished in and to the adjacent and adjoining freeway except at such points as.now are or may be established by resolu- tion of this Commission. The purpose of this resolution is to vest in the City of Redlands as city streets, all of the State of California's right, title and interest in and to the portions of State highway here- by relinquished. Avenue and the freeway routing for State highway Route 26, hereinafter particularly described, has been superseded by a change in the location of said State highway Route 26; and WHEREAS, this Commission has found and determined, and does hereby find and determine that it is desirable and in the public interest that said portion of the State highway so superseded be relinquished to the City of Redlands for use as a city street; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS VOTED by the California Highway Commission that it relinquish and it does hereby relinquish to the City of Redlands, effective upon the recordation of a certified copy hereof in the office of the County Recorder of San Bernardino County, that portion of superseded State highway in the City of Redlands, together with the right of way and appurtenances thereof, described as Follows. All of the existing State highway right of way, road VIII-SB d-190-R1d, shown shaded as indicated on sheets numbered 1 and 5 of maps filed for record on September 8, 1961 in State Highway Map Book No. 5, Pages 56 and 60, Records of.San Bernardino County, which lies between the following termini: The Southerly terminus of the superseded State highway, road VTII-SBdm190-R1d, being the prolongation of the Northerly line of Central Avenue(Route 26) across Orange Street (Route 190), and the Northerly terminus is a line across said Orange Street, 50 feet South of the prolongation of the centerline of Pearl Avenue relocated. The length of superseded State highway hereby relinquished is 0.26 of a mile. The purpose of this resolution is to vest in the City of Redlands as a city street all of the State of California's right, title and interest in and to the portion of State highway hereby relinquished. Martin, Assistant Secretary to the California Highway Com- mission, on October 23, 1962, which was attached to your copy, erroneously states that the Commission passed the resolution on October 23, 1962, also.
