In years past, the City had a camera positioned to provide a view of Ed Hale's Park and the surrounding
area. The camera was a PTZ camera that also allowed a camera operator to speak to citizens in the park
and provide information if needed. The camera was part of a comprehensive plan to provide additional
resources and act as a force multiplier for patrol officers. Approximately two years ago, it was removed
to allow for the City to erect the clocks that are currently on the S/W corner of the park. The Saturday
Market takes place in the parking lot to the North of the park, it is a common area for people to gather
and there have been several protests in the area this year Adding cameras back to the area of 5`h Street
and State Street will allow dispatch to monitor the area as needed as well as create a force multiplier for
patrol officers responding to crimes in progress.
The Redlands Police Department (RPD) currently has an offsite property and evidence room. There are
currently no surveillance cameras inside this room, which makes it difficult for staff to monitor
activity Evidence from crimes, narcotics, DNA, firearms, and currency are stored inside the Property
and Evidence room, which is a big liability to the department and city RPD would like to purchase 2
Indigo Vision 4mp Vandal IP66 dome cameras that will be hardwired and linked to other PD cameras.
The new cameras will cover the entrance/exit door along with the working areas of staff. Dispatch and
RPD employees will be able to monitor the cameras as needed from their desktop and the video will be
retained for 30 days.
