HomeMy WebLinkAboutPlanning Minutes 06-12-07spec_CCv0001.pdf MINUTES: of the Special Planning Commission Meeting of the City of Redlands held Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. are as follows: PLANNING COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: James Macdonald, Chairman Gary Miller, Vice Chairman Ruth Cook, Commissioner Carol Dyer, Commissioner Paul Foster, Commissioner John James, Commissioner Eric Shamp, Commissioner CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Frank Herendeen, Commissioner Michael Layne, Commissioner Coley Bowman, Commissioner Robert Giordano, Commissioner James Stewart, Commissioner Claudia Roach, Commissioner Clark Elder Morrow, Commissioner ADVISORY STAFF PRESENT: Jeff Shaw, Director Robert Dalquest, Assistant Director Dan McHugh, City Attorney Michael Reiter, Assistant City Attorney Tamara Alaniz, Associate Planner OTHERS PRESENT: Jon Harrison, Mayor Paul Barich, President, Redlands Chamber of Commerce Donna West, Redlands School Board Member A. Call Special Meeting to Order Chairman Macdonald called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. B. Public Comments (At this time, the Planning Commission and the Cultural Arts Commission will provide an opportunity for the public to address them on the subject, which is scheduled on this special joint meeting agenda. Please limit your comments to three (3) minutes.) Paul Barich, President of the Chamber of Commerce, stated that the Redlands Chamber of Commerce opposed implementation of the Public Art Ordinance indicating that it would be counter productive to economic development and deter quality projects from developing in Redlands. Donna West, Redlands School Board member, commented on the benefits that the cultural arts would bring to the Redlands community. C. Workshop and discussion on Ordinance Text Amendment No. 313, Art in Public Places Ordinance There was discussion between both the Planning and Cultural Arts Commissions relative to the issues and concerns that were brought forward at the April 24, 2007 Planning Commission meeting. Both Commissions agreed that the one hour special meeting was not sufficient time to come to a resolution on the proposed ordinance and indicated that another joint meeting may take place in the future. D. Public Comments - None (At this time, the Planning Commission and the Cultural Arts Commission will provide an opportunity for the public to address them on any subject, within the jurisdiction of the City of Redlands, which is not already scheduled on this agenda. However, any matter that requires action will be referred to staff for a report and action at a subsequent meeting. Please limit your comments to three (3) minutes.) VIII.
