T Waldo F. Burroughs , Mayor William T. Hartzell , "Vice-Mayor Norman N. Martinez , Councilman Jack B. Cummings , Councilman Charles G. DeMirjyn, Councilman Ralph P. Merritt , Jr. , City Manager Carl Davis, Attorney Peggy A. Moseley, City Clerk Ron Kibby, Redlands Daily Facts Chuck Palmer, San Bernardino Sun The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance followed by the Invocation by Councilman Cummings. This adjourned meeting is being held to elicit public opinion and one-half years , and stated that the goal is now within reach. Dr. Paul Allen, Chairman of the Park Commission, but speaking private individual , endorsed the Park acquisition and warned t Redlands should not repeat the error it had made just thirty y ago in failing to acquire Smiley Heights as a park. Miss Frances Willis and Mrs . Elbert Shirk spoke enthusiastical favor of preserving this beautiful area for future generations Mrs . Shirk emphasized the remarkable variety of botanical spec planted in this area . Also speaking wholeheartedly in favor of quiring the park for the City of Redlands were : Mr. William S Mrs. Nellie Pine, Mr. Jack Wiley, Mr. Zafon Hartman, Dr. Willi Klausner, General John W. Sessums , Mr. Lloyd Yount , Dr. Frank way, Mr. Leon Armantrout , Mr. Albert Maldonado, Mr. Harold Wal Mr. Rick Jirsa, Dr. William Umbach, Mr. Orland Fowler, Mr. Har and Dr. Arthur L. Swift . Councilman DeMirjyn stated that he would like to see the matte turned to the people for another election Those in the audience voicing this opinion were : Mr. and Mrs . Crane , Mr. Howard Prescott , Mr. James Williams and Mr. and Mrs Calvin Wright . General John Sessums was unanimously drafted to be temporary c of a committee to proceed with a campaign to raise the necessa funds to complete the purchase of Prospect Park. Twenty-four from the audience volunteered to serve on this committee. Mayor Burroughs congratulated the audience on their public spi stated that the benefits would be lasting and offered the sere of the City Manager and staff to assist in any way possible. City Manager Merritt presented to Council a resume of the educ Appointment and technical qualifications of Colonel Robert H. Mitchell, wh been selected to replace retiring Building Superintendent Raym Phelps. Following discussion, on motion of Councilman Hartzel seconded by Councilman DeMirjyn, this appointment received Cou approval, -On motion of Councilman Cummings , seconded by Councilman.; Mart Fifth Street authorization was given for the Department of Public Works to Improvement with the resurfacing and drainage correction of Fifth Street b Redlands Boulevard and Citrus Avenue . This is being done in c, tion with the Downtown Beautification Program. Mayor Burroughs reappointed Councilman Martinez to a full thre+ term as Council representative on the Recreation Commission, b,
