Ma authorized to execute the certificates of acceptance in behalf of City. TRAFFIC RECOMMENDATIONS Councilman Knudsen brought to Council_ attention a traffic problem incl at Citrus Avenue and. Fifth Street where car's attempt to make a Wrong-way on way turn into Fifth Street to go north. Fie suggested a red arrow Fifth Street painted in this lana. of Fifth Street and also that "Wrong-way" sig erected at as fairly low level- so they will_ be seen by a driver att such a-a turn. Mr . Shone described the lines and equipment ey necessary, the facilities which would need to be constructed, and presernt- uent ed a cost estimate of the expense to be borne by the City and the expense nea to be borne by the college. Following Council discussion, Councilman Cummings expressed appreciation of the professionalism of this proposal and moved that the: agreement as submitted be approved by the City Council. Motion seconded. by Councilman Knudsen and, carried by the following roll call vote- AYES : Councilmen Cummings, DeMirjyn, Knudsen, Mayor Burroughs NOES : None ABSENT: Councilman Martinez Councilman Cummings congratulated Councilman DeMirjyn on the success of the recent celebration of Mexican Independence Day with the participation :: by the mayor of Redlands ' Mexican Sister City, San. Miguel. de Allende. Councilman DeMirjyn expressed his appreciation to the many, many people :an who participated in this; enterprise, especially the Golden West Airlines, adencwc Who furnished transportation to and from Leos Angeles :for the visiting tion mayor, his wife, and those welcoming them He also expressed gratitude for the very generous press coverage by both newspapers, and the efforts of the cite staff. Mayon: Burroughs praised the atmosphere of general cooperation exhibited in this celebration, and emphasized the courtesy displayed by the store clerks and customers toward the visiting dignitaries .AT S Manager Merritt brought a request from the league of California Cities that, the Council designate a voting delegate :for the forthcoming Teague meeting in October . on motion of Councilman Cummings , seconded by Councilman DeMirjyn, the Mayor_ was authorized to vote for the City and the Vice Mayor, as his alternate. Manager Merritt brought notice that the Public Utilities Commission: hearing can the Southern California Edison Company' s request for an in- crease in rates will be held. September 23, 1968 at 1.0:00 A.M. in the State Office Building in Los Angeles . Mr . Merritt also brought notice of a time extension granted, by the LPFC to the City regarding Annexation No. 30. This extension is to April 25, 1969. At this time City Manager Merritt requested authorization from the cil for the expenditure of $17 , 000 already budgeted to part icipate matching funds project with funds from the California aeronautics Airport s.i.on for the purpose of promoting flight safety at the airport . T l aaproveaaa.erat i apro.,rements consist of: installation of drainage system to serve way and taxiway; installation of safety fencing along east boundar part of south boundary of airport, under rounding of approximately feet of telephone lines . Following lengthy discussion, on motion. Councilman DeM _rJyn, seconded by Councilman. Knudsen, approval was for the expenditure of this $17 , 000 . On motion of Councilman Demirjyn, seconded by Councilman Knudsen, Grant Deed deed from Marie B . Hamner, to the City of Redlands for the property flasttner Grant Street, which was recently y purchased by the City, was accept to with the City Manager authorized to execute the certificate of ace City in behalf of the City. Manager Merritt presented a claim from the Edison Ccastapany,, for cl.am a Claim an Edison power pole which was caused by breakage of a water main. Manager Merritt reported the City ' s misfortune in the loss today o of the Disposal Department packer-trucks which rolled off of 8ierr Drive when the brakes failed to hold. As it is a total loss, he r Purchase mends that the Council_ authorize placement of order, with Lange and Disposal for another truck identical to the one ordered in Mune, .1968.
