days . Heaviest attendance was 1.45 fishermen taking 600 fish. `1'he:: car-
fish averaged three-fourths to a pound each. Children came from all part
of the city, and it was estimated that four_ to five, thousand hours of
recreation were provided by this sport.

None being forthcoming, the public hearing was declared closed and ordi-
nance No . 1.380 was adopted on motion of Councilman DeMir jyn, seconded by
Councilman Martinez, with waiver of the reading of the ordinance in full,
by the following roll. call vote:

Prior to opening the public hearing which was advertised on Ordinance No. '
1.381., City Manager Merritt pointed out that Section Eight should incluade

Manager Merritt explained that following a comprehensive comparison of

Councilman Knudsen expressed interest in: the over-all operational plan
of the General_ 'telephone Company as related to Redlands, enlargement men of
the Recreation Commission; enlargement in, meraabershap and scope of the
Board of Parking [.lace Commissioners; Council ' s failure to annex Sunset
Drive property fifteen years ago7 the availability of maps of entire city;
for study during Council meetings ; establishment of <a fee schedule for

Resolution No. 271..7, a resolution of the City Council of the City of

2717 Redlands urging Legislators of the United States and the State of
California to seriously consider closing the united States-Mexican border
roes to American manors unless accompanied by a parent or other responsible
adult, was read in its entirety by Mayor Burroughs and adopted on motion
of Councilman Martinez, seconded by Councilman Knudsen.
Following adoption of Resolution No. 271.7, Councilman DeM.ir yn expressed
his concern with the present, policy of the school administration and
Board an the handling of accused peddlers of heroin, dangerous drugs and
maraJuana - the current policy considers each case individually. Coun-
cilman DLMirjyn feels that positive action with written males should be
established related to "pushers of drugs, " and that they should be seg:r e
gated from school, students in general.. , with the recommendation that they
be tutored to keep sap their grades until_ such time as they are taken to
trial and either.. vindicated or convicted . Mayor Burroughs stated that
the City Council and the Police have made every effort to emphasize the
seriousness of the entire problem, and expressed hope that the schools
would indeed take as firm stand. Chief Graefe stated that at the present
time the cost of apprehending the narcotics peddlers is approximate-ly
$15, 000, or 2 on the tax dollar.
