an amcmidmed to the Redlands Sign Code ptioviding changes in
amiortiaation of existing signs fbr multi-tenant build ngs.
Cornmiunityl Development Diructor Shawl explained the applicants,
Cardinal Development C omparrA pnupases to lengthen the
amiortiaation period from five years I a 10 yciars for group signs that
were legal when annexcid to the City of Rkidlands. This application
would change the Code ClitM-wide even though tf,a applicant is
mainly interested in their group sign at R4 4 7 Redlands Boulevard.
Stafflhas been in continuous contact with the applicant since
November 1986 concerning the status oflthis particular sign. IF
this request was approved,the ordinance text amendmcni could
have Iwo s:ignilficant impacts on the Citylbesides making the Sign
Code less restr7ictive: the City woui d be forced to creat e a programs
to inveradoryl and iderrlifyl all illegal signs and have thein correctcd,
and it would gilva one type of sign owncoi special consideration and
mayl violate equal protection laws fbr other sign owners and create
a catalyst for furthlcni legal action.
