AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING CHAPTER
57 OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE - WELFARE - ANIMALS ,
AND AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1378
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOL-
LOWS :
SECTION ONE: Sections 57303 and 57304 of Chapter 57 of the
Redlands Ordinance Code are hereby amended to read:
WELFARE ANIMALS Sec. 57302
§ 57302. CONFINEMENT OF CAPTURED DOG. Officers
or persons capturing a dog under the provisions of Section
57301 shall separately confine said dog in some safe place,
and shall report the capture to the Chief of Police and
shall submit such dog for examination by a licensed veter-
inarian, to determine whether such dog is rabid. (1086)
§ 57303 . RELEASE OF IMPOUNDED DOGSa If any dog
impounded by virtue of this Article has not been vaccinated
as provided in Article 572, the owner or the person entitled
to its custody shall pay an additional sum of two dollars
($2 .00) per day for the keeping of said animal and comply
with the provisions of Articles 571 and 572 before the dog
may be returned. (1416)
§ 57304. DISPOSAL OF DOGS ON REQUEST OF OWNER.
Any owner or possessor of any dog may request the Chief of
Police to dispose of such dog. Under this Section the dog
must be delivered to the Chief of Police or his representa-
tive, and not require apprehension. Owner shall pay the
following charge for disposal, as applicable:
Live dog $5.00
Dead dog 2.00
Live puppy, under three (3)
months of age 1 .00 (1416)
§ 57305. ABANDONMENT OF DOGS . Any owner or
possessor of any dog who deposits or abandons said dog in
any building, lot enclosure, lane, square or street, school
ground, playground or any public place within the City of
Redlands shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor. (1086)
§ 57306. Whenever any animal subject to rabies
shows symptons of rabies, such owner or person having the
custody or possession of such animal shall immediately
confine it and notify the Chief of Police and keep said
animal confined until it is determined whether such animal
is rabid. (1086)
§ 57307 . RABID BITE --° IMMEDIATE CONFINEMENT
OF ANIMAL BITTEN. Whenever any animal shall be bitten
by another animal having rabies, the owner or person
having custody or possession of the animal so bitten, shall,
upon being informed thereof, either destroy such animal or
confine it, and keep it confined or tied up for a period
of six months, and the Chief of Police shall have the power,
in his discretion, to destroy or quarantine the animal so
bitten, if the owner or person having the custody or
possession thereof refuses or is unable immediately to
confine the animal. (1086)

SECTION TWO: This ordinance is declared to be an emergency
measure for the preservation of the public health and safety in ac-
cordance with the provisions of the Government Code of the State
of California. This ordinanceshall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
SECTION THREE: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this ordinance and cause it to be published once in the Redlands
Daily Facts .
