HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_1579_CCv0001.pdf ORDINANCE NO. 1579 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOL- LOWS : SECTION ONE : That the Redlands Ordinance Cade be amended by adding Article 574, "Wild or Undomesticated Animals, " as follows : WELFARE ANIMALS Article 574 ARTICLE 574 WILD OR UNDOMESTICATED ANIMALS 57400, WILD, OR UNDOMESTICAT EP ANIMALS. No person shall offer for sale, give away, bring into or maintain within an area coming within the jurisdiction of this ordinance, any lion, tiger, bear, wolf, cougar, ocelot, wildcat, skunk, venomous or dangerous snake or reptiles or other such wild animals (ferae naturae) , irrespective of their actual or asserted state of docility, tame- ness, or domesticity. The Animal Control Department may impound any such animal and dispose of it in a humane manner after three (3) working days to allow for legal restraining action by the owner. (1579) § 57401. OTHER PROVISIONS. The provisions of this section shall not prohibit the keeping or maintaining of wild animals within the City under the following conditions: (A) Legally operated zoos, circuses, carnivals, exhibits or shows, unless the Animal Control Department, the County Veterinarian, or the Health Department Officer shall give forty- eight hours (48) advance notice that by reason of inadequate caging or other means of pro- tection of the public from such animals or by the ineffectiveness of sanitation measures or by a particular hazard connected with the animal or animals involved, the public health and welfare will be endangered. (B) Wild animals in a bona fide, licensed veter- inary hospital for treatment. (C) Keeping or experimental animals or reptiles by a research laboratory, hospital, or educational institution for experimental purposes® § 57402. PENALTY. Any person violating any of the provi- sions of this Article shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine or not less than twenty-five ($25.00) dollars, and not more than five hundred ($500.00) dollars or by imprisonment for a period of not more than six (6) months or by both such fine and imprisonment. (1579) 4/20/76 SECTION TWO : Any other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION THREE: This ordinance shall be in force and take effect as provided by law. SECTION FOUR: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the City of Redlands .
