ORDINANCE NO. 1926
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 573
OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE,
RELATING TO THE KEEPING OF DOGS
(RECODIFICATION PROJECT)
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 . Section 57300 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
"57300 . DUTY TO ENFORCE. It shall
be the duty of the Chief of Police to
enforce the provisions of Articles 571 ,
572 and 573 . To do so, the Chief of
Police, Poundmaster , and all police
officers and animal control officers of
this City shall have the right to enter
upon any property located within the
City, whether public or private. "
SECTION 2 . Section 57301 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
1157301 . DOGS RUNNING AT LARGE. Any
person owning or having charge, custody,
control or possession of any dog shall
not permit such animal to run at large,
or to run loose or unrestrained in,
along, or upon any public street, side-
walk , or place. "
SECTION 3 . Section 57305 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
"57305 . ABANDONMENT OF DOGS . Any
person who deposits or abandons any dog
in or upon any building, enclosure, lane,
square or street, school ground, play-
ground or any public place within the
City of Redlands is guilty of a
misdemeanor . "
SECTION 4 . Section 57309 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
"57309 . DOG BITE QUARANTINE. When-
ever it is shown that any dog has bitten
any person, the owner or person having
custody or possession of the dog shall,
upon order of the Chief of Police,
quarantine the dog and keep it tied up or
confined at the owner ' s expense for a
period of fourteen ( 14 ) days . The Chief
of Police may cause a licensed veteri-
narian to make an inspection of the dog
at any time during such period. Any dog
so quarantined shall not be removed from
the premises without permission of the
Chief of Police. Any person who violates
this section is guilty of a misdemeanor . "
SECTION 5 . Section 57310 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
"57310 . VICIOUS DOG QUARANTINE. If
it is determined by the Chief of Police
that any dog is a vicious dog, although
not afflicted with rabies , the Chief of
Police may order the person who owns or
has custody of the dog to keep the dog
securely fastened by chain, or securely
confined within the private property of
the owner or person having custody of the
dog, or to keep the dog in such manner as
the Chief of Police shall direct to
prevent it from biting or having an
opportunity to bite any member of the
public. The person or persons receiving
such an order of confinement shall at all
times thereafter keep the dog securely
fastened by chain, or confined within the
private property of the owner or person
having custody of the dog , or otherwise
confined as the Chief of Police shall
direct, to prevent the dog from
endangering the public until further
order of the Chief of Police. In deter-
mining whether a dog is a vicious dog,

the Chief of Police shall be guided by
the following considerations : (a)
whether the dog has bitten any persons,
(b) the circumstances of any such biting
incidents, which may indicate the temper
or ferocity of the dog, (c) the reputa-
tion of the dog in the community with
respect to its temper and ferocity, and
(d) its general menace to the public .
This section shall be operative regard-
less of whether the dog in question has
been vaccinated and tagged as required by
Articles 571 and 572 of this Code . Any
person who violates this section is
guilty of a misdemeanor . "
SECTION 6 . Section 57313 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
"57313 . VIOLATION -- INFRACTION.
Except where the violation is specifi-
cally declared to be a misdemeanor, any
person who violates any of the provisions
of this Article, or of Article 571 or
Article 572 , is guilty of an infraction. "
SECTION 7 . Sections 57302, 57303 , 57304, 57306 ,
57307 , 57308 and 57312 of the Redlands Ordinance Code are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 8 . This ordinance shall be in force and
take effect as provided by law.
SECTION 9 . The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and
the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordi-
nance and cause it or a summary of it to be published once

in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circula-
tion printed and published in this City.
