ORDINANCE NO. 1567
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING CHAPTER 63 - BICYCLES,
OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE PURSUANT TO DIVISION 16. 7 OF
THE CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE AND RESCINDING ORDINANCES NO. 816, NO.
1038, NO. 1060 AND NO. 1518
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOL-
LOWS :
SECTION ONE. That the Redlands Ordinance Code be amended by
substituting an entirely rewritten Chapter 63 - Bicycles, reading
as follows :

ARTICLE 631
BICYCLE LICEMSES
§ 63100. BICYCLE LICENSE REQUIRED. It is un-
lawful for any person to operate or use a bicycle, as defined
in Section 21200 V.C. without having attached thereto a
California bicycle license, upon any of the streets, alleys
or public highways of this city. (1567)
§ 63101. ISSUANCE OF LICENSES. The Police
Department of the City of Redlands is hereby authorized and
directed to obtain original bicycle license plates and renewal
license plates from the California Department of Motor
Vehicles and issue same at the Police Department.
§ 63102. CONDITION OF BICYCLE. The bicycle shall
be equipped and maintained as provided for in Section 21201
V.C. at all times when operated in the city, and before a
license can be issued.
§ 63103 . EFFECT OF LICENSE. Said licenses, when
issued, shall entitle the licensee to operate such bicycle,
for which said license has been issued, upon all the streets,
alleys and public highways, exclusive of the sidewalks there-
of, in the city.
§ 63104, LICENSE PLATES AND REGISTRATION. The
City of Redlands shall provide, for a fee, a California
Bicycle License and maintain registration records as provided
in Division 16. 7 of the California Vehicle Code.
§ 63105 . ATTACHMENT OF PLATES. The plate shall
be attached to the frame of the bicycle below the seat on the
seat post portion of the frame.
§ 63106. REMOVAL OF PLATES. The plate shall
not be removed.
63107. RECORD OF LICENSES . The Police Depart-
ment shall maintain registration records .

§ 6310$. DESTRUCTION OF BICYCLE, It shall be
the duty of every license holder to notify thePolice Depart-
ment within ten (10) days of the destruction of the bicycle.
The registration card shall be returned to the Police Depart-
ment at that time.
ARTICLE 632
FEES
§ 63200. INITIAL, RENEWAL FEE. The initial
license fee and the renewal fee to be paid for each bicycle
shall be one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) . A bicycle pur-
chased after license deadline may be licensed for 504 for
each rear remaining in the three-year period or portion of
the remaining year, upon proof of sale.
§ 63201, PENALTY. A penalty of $1.00 shall be
added upon any application for annual renewal of registration
made on or after February lst of the registration renewal
year, except as provided in Section 63200 of this Article.
§ 63202. PAYMENT OF FEES, All licenses shall
be payable in advance to the Chief of Police or his repre-
sentative, who is hereby designated as the license collector
for all fees due under this Chapter.
§ 63203 . TRANSFER FEE. Pursuant to Article 634,
a bicycle license may be transferred when the ownership of
said bicycle is transferred and a fee of fifty cents (50(�)
shall be paid for the registration of such transfer..

BICYCLE DEALERS
§ 63300. SECONDHAND DEALER'S REPORT OF PURCHASES
All persons engaged in the business of buying secondhand
bicycles are hereby required to make a weekly report to the
Police Department, giving the name and address of the person
from whom each bicycle is purchased, the description of each
bicycle purchased, the frame number thereof, and the number
of any license found thereon, if any.
§ 63301, DEALER'S REPORT OF SALES. All persons
engaged in the business of selling new or secondhand bicycles
are hereby required to make a weekly report to the Police
Department, giving a list of all sales made by such dealers,
which list shall include the name and address of each person
to whom sold, the kind of bicycle sold, together with a
description and frame number thereof, and the number of the
license attached thereto, if any.

TRANSFER OF REGISTRATION
63400. TRANSFEROR'S REPORT OF TRANSFER. It
is the duty of every person who sells or transfers ownership
of any bicycle, to report such sale or transfer by returning
to the Police Department the registration card issued to
such person as licensee thereof, together with the name and
address of the person to whom said bicycle was sold or trans-
ferred; and such report shall be made within ten (10) days
of the date of said sale or transfer,
§ 63401. TRANSFEREE'S APPLICATION FOR REGISTRA-
TION. It shall be the duty of the purchaser or transferee
of such bicycle to apply for a transfer of registration
thereof within ten (10) days of the date of said transfer of
registration.
ARTICLE 635
ENFORCEMENT
§ 63500. IMPOUNDING OF BICYCLE. In addition to
the penalty hereinabove set forth, the Police Department, or
any of the members thereof, may impound any bicycle operated
in violation of any of the provisions of this Chapter, and
retain possession of same until the license provided for here-
in is obtained by the owner of said bicycle.
§ 63501, ISSUANCE OF TRAFFIC CITATIONS , The
Police Department may issue a traffic citation to any person
who operates a bicycle in violation of any of the provisions
of this Chapter or the California vehicle Code. (1567)
SECTION TWO. This ordinance shall be in force and take effect
as provided by law.
SECTION THREE. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this ordinance and cause it to be published once in the Redlands
Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published
in the City of Redlands.
