HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_2480_CCv0001.pdf CORRECTED 1/31/02 ORDINANCE NO. 2480 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ADDING CHAPTER 2.68 TO THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE TO ESTABLISH A BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMISSION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 2.68 relating to the establishment of a Business and Economic Development Advisory Commission is hereby added to the Redlands Municipal Code to read as follows: "CHAPTER 2.68 Business and Economic Development Advisory Commission 2.68.010 Established. There is a Business and Economic Development Advisory Commission is hereby established to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council and to aid the City in formulating goals, policies and standards relating to business and economic development within the City. 2.68.020 Membership. The Commission shall consist of eight members who shall each, with the exception of the student member, shall serve for a four-year staggered term and until his or her successor is appointed. No person shall serve more than two consecutive terms. Vacancies on the Commission shall be filled in the same manner as the Commissioners are appointed. The Commission members shall be residents of the City of Redlands and neither officers nor employees of the City. In addition,there shall be one student member to be appointed to the Commission. The student member's term shall be for one year. The members of the Commission shall serve without compensation. 2.68.030 Members - Forfeiture of Office by Absence. Any Commission member who is absent from any three consecutive regular meetings of the Commission, unless excused from such attendance by consent of the Commission expressed by action of record in its minutes, shall automatically forfeit his or her office as a member of the Commission. The vacancy so created shall be filled pursuant to section 2.68.020. 2.68.040 Organization. The Commission shall annually elect a chairperson and a vice chairperson and there is no prohibition to the number of terms a member may serve in either capacity. The Commission shall keep records of all its proceedings and actions and shall have regular meeting dates in conformance with law. Five members of the Commission shall constitute a quorum. 2.68.060 Powers and Responsibilities. Recommend to the City Council policies for the retention of businesses within the community. B. Assist the City Council by recommending policies to enhance the economic viability of the City. C. Advise the City Council by recommending policies for the implementation of the Redlands Redevelopment Plan. D. Review and recommend policies and programs to encourage the relocation of new businesses to the City. Section 2. The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and shall cause it, or a summary of it, to be published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation within the City, and thereafter this ordinance shall take effect as provided by law.
