AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLA_US AMENDING
CHAPTER 18 OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE ESTABLISHING SHE "ULTURAL
ARTS COMMISSION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS does ordain as
follows :
SECTION 1 . That the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby
amended by the addition of Article 196, Cultural Arts Commission,
to read as follows:
"ARTICLE 196
CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
19600. PURPOSE AND INTENT. The City Council hereby
finds and declares as follows :
(a) That the City of Redlands enjoys many distinctive
arts activities in the schools, in museums, and in the community
which enhance the cultural life of the community .
(b) That the City of Redlands desires to encourage
coordination of arts events; promote and encourage art education;
recommend development of facilities for the arts; and institute a
program of "Art in Public Places. "
19601 . EXISTENCE. There is hereby established a
Cultural Arts Commission which shall serve in an advisory capacity
to the City Council and make recommendations and determinations
relating to the encouragement of the arts.
19603 . MEMBERS. The Commission shall consist of Leven
members, appointed by the City Council . Four members of the
Commission shall constitute a quorum. Each member shall serve for
a term of three years except that the initial terms of appointment
shall be as follows: three members shall be appointed for an
initial term of three years; two members shall be appointed for an
initial term of two years; and the remaining two members shall be
appointed for an initial term of one year . No member shall serve
for more than two consecutive terms. Vacancies shall be filled by
appointment by the City Council . Each member shall serve until
his/her successor is appointed and qualified.
19604 . ORGANIZATION. The Commission shall annually
elect a chairperson for the term of one year and other such
officers as deemed advisable. The Commission shall keep records of
all of its proceedings and actions and shall have regular meeting
dates. The Community Services Administrator , or his/her designated
appointee , shall serve as staff to the Cultural Arts Commission.
duties: 19605 . DUTIES. The Commission shall have the following
(a) Promote public interest in the Arts.
(b) Recommend new arts programs and sources of funding
for those programs.
( c ) Assist the City Council by recommendation of
policies to encourage, develop, and support the arts in Redlands. "
(d) Advise the City Council in the administration of the
City' s "Art in Public Places" program.
SECTION 2 . This Ordinance shall be in force and take
effect as provided by law.
SECTION 3 . This Deputy City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Ordinance and cause it to be published once in the
Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed
and published in this City.
