HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_1713_CCv0001.pdf ORDINANCE NO. 1713 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ADDING CHAPTER 46 TO THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE TO PROVIDE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF HOUSE NUMBERS ON THE STREET CURBS OF NEW DWELLINGS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS does ordain as follows : SECTION ONE: That Chapter 46 be added to the Redlands Ordinance Code to read as follows: CHAPTER 46 HOUSE NUMBERING REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW DWELLINGS § 46000. DEFINITIONS. For the purpose of this chapter, "A New Dwelling" is a dwelling structure housing one or more dwelling units identified by one street address which was authorized by a building permit dated after the effective date of this ordinance. § 46001. PURPOSE OF CHAPTER. The purpose of this chapter is to promote the safety and welfare of the community by providing a standardized location for the addresses of new dwellings which will facilitate the rapid identification of a property by emergency vehicles in emergency situations. Such standardized locations also minimizes traffic hazards and offers convenience for those motorists who are seeking an address from a moving vehicle in traffic. § 46002. ADDRESS REQUIRED TO BE POSTED. Prior to the approval of the final inspection of a new dwelling, the address number, as determined by the City of Redlands, shall be placed on the premises of the dwelling in a location which is readily visible from the street. In addition, the dwelling address number shall also be placed on the face of the property, provided that said curb is at least six inches (6" ) in height. If a driveway exists in front of said property, the numbers shall be located on the curb commencing within six inches (6") of the driveway approach. § 46003 . DESIGN STANDARDS. The numbers shall be painted on the curb as specified by the standards titled "Standard Design For House Numbers on Curbs" ; copies of which are on file in the offices of Redlands City Clerk, the Redlands Department of Public Works, and Redlands Department of Building and Safety . Said numbers shall be painted with a white background which extends one-half inch (1/2") above and below the numbers and two inches (2" ) on each side of the numbers. The numbers shall be of black paint and each number shall be uniformly four inches (4" ) in height. All paint shall be of the type as specified by its manufacturer for exterior use on concrete surfaces. All painting operations shall be done neatly with the use of stencils and the paint shall be applied to a thickness consistent with unifor- mity and durability. I § 46004 . FOR DWELLINGS OCCUPIED PRIOR TO CURB CONSTRUCTION. If a dwelling has been completed and ready for occupancy prior to the construction or completion of the curb in front of the dwelling, said curb will not be deemed complete or acceptable to the City until the dwelling address numbers have been placed on the curb as defined by this ordinance. SECTION TWO: Effective date: This ordinance shall be in force and take effect as provided by law. SECTION THREE: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in this City. BACKGROUND SHALL BE WHITE PAINT. IT SHALL BE PAINTED UNIFORMLY ON THE CURB TO THE DIMENSIONS SHOWN. NUMBERALS SHALL BE BLACK. THEY SHALL BE PAINTED NEATLY AND UNIFORMLY. THE STENCILS SHALL BE OF ACCEPTABLE MATERIAL AND CLEANED DURING USE TO ALLOW NEAT CRISP NUMERALS AT ALL TIMES. ALL PAINTING OPERATIONS SHALL BE DONE NEATLY, AND PAINT SHALL BE APPLIED TO A THICKNESS CONSISTENT WITH UNIFORMITY AND DURABILITY. NOT TO BE USED ON CURBS WHERE CURB FACE IS LESS THAN 6" .
