AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING
SECTION 2 . 02 . 020 OF THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO THE POSITIONS OF MAYOR AND MAYOR PRO
TEMPORE FOR THE CITY OF REDLANDS
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council of the
City of Redlands ("this City Council") that each member elected to
the Council is equally qualified and deserving to hold the
positions of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore; and
WHEREAS, this City Council has determined that each
councilmember should be given an opportunity to be appointed to the
positions of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Redlands;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands has
further determined that it is in the best interest of the City to
rotate, annually by councilmember on a seniority basis, the
positions of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redlands
does ordain as follows:
Section 1. Section 2 . 02 . 020 of the Redlands Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2 . 02 . 020 Appointment of Mayor and Mayor Pro
Tempore--terms of office.
A. The opportunity to serve as Mayor shall be
granted to the councilmember holding the
highest seniority on the City Council. The
opportunity to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore
shall be granted to the councilmember holding
the second highest seniority on City Council .
Thereafter, such positions shall rotate
annually to the remaining councilmembers in
descending order of seniority. In the event
of equal seniority between qualifying
councilmembers, priority shall be granted to
the councilmember receiving the greatest
percentage of votes in the last election.
B. "Seniority" means preference in position
granted to the councilmember with the greatest
length of consecutive service on the City
Council .
C. A councilmember, upon the opportunity to serve
as Mayor or Mayor Pro Tempore, may waive his
or her position in the rotation.

D. The procedure set forth above shall commence
and be effective on , 1990. 1,
Section 2 . The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and
the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and
shall cause it, or a summary of it, to be published once in the
Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed
and published in the City, and thereafter, this ordinance shall
take effect in accordance with law.
