AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS PROTECTING CANINES AND EQUINES
UTILIZED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND PROHIBITING THE MISTREATMENT,
TAUNTING, MOLESTING, ASSAULTING, INJURING, DISABLING, OR KILLING OF
ANY SUCH CANINE OR EQUINE WHILE UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE
FUNCTIONS OR DUTIES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OR OF ANY OFFICER OR
EMPLOYEE THEREOF AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOL-
LOWS:
SECTION ONE: PROTECTION OF CANINES AND EQUINES . It is the
intent of the City Council of the City of Redlands to protect
canines and equines, utilized by the Police Department, from inter-
ference and harm while such animals are in use in the performance
of functions or duties of the Police Department.
SECTION TWO: PROHIBITED CONDUCT. It shall be unlawful for
any person to willfully or maliciously tease, taunt, torment,
strike, kick, mutilate, disable, or otherwise injure, or kill , or
to unwarrantably interfere or meddle with any canine or equine
while such animal is being utilized by the Police Department, or
any officer or employee thereof, in the performance of any function
or duty of said department, or of such officer or employee.
SECTION THREE: PENALITIES . Any person violating any of the
provisions of this ordnance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and,
upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in an amount not exceeding
three hundred dollars (.$300 . 00) or imprisoned in the County Jail
for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days, or by being both so
fined and imprisoned.
SECTION FOUR: This ordinance shall be in force and take
effect as provided by law.
SECTION FIVE: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage
of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once
in the Redlands Daily Facts, a daily newspaper of general circula-
tion printed and published in this City.
