AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS, ADDING SECTION 9.28.020 TO THE
REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO PROHIBITED PEDDLING WITHIN
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL ZONES
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council of the City of Redlands to protect the
children of our community by prohibiting peddling of various goods within one-thousand (1000)
feet of any primary or secondary school, during school hours and on school days; and
WHEREAS, the peddling of goods within school zones contributes to increased vehicular
traffic, traffic flow congestion and creates hazardous conditions for children attempting to
purchase items from sellers of goods within school zones;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section l: Section 9.28.020 — Entitled "Peddling Prohibited Near Schools" is hereby
added to the Redlands Municipal Code to read as follows:
"Section 9.28.020 Peddling Prohibited Near Schools.
No person shall sell, offer for sale, give away, solicit the sale of, or expose for
sale, any goods, wares or merchandise including but not limited to toys, fruits,
vegetables, peanuts, popcorn, candy, ice cream or other food items upon any
public street, sidewalk, or parkway within one-thousand feet of the property line
of any public or private primary or secondary school during the hours of 8:00 a.m.
and 5:00 p.m., on any day when school is in session. This section does not
prohibit the delivery of goods or merchandise to school personnel, businesses or
occupants of dwelling units."
Section 2. Publication and Postin . The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and the City
Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and shall cause it, or a summary of it, to be
published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation within the City.
