HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_2234_CCv0001.pdf ORDINANCE NO. 2234 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING SECTION 2.60.040 OF THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE DISPOSITION OF PROPERTY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS does hereby ordain: SECTION ONE: That Section 2.60.040 of the Redlands Municipal Code, which sets forth the procedures relating to the disposition of unclaimed property held by the Police Department, is hereby amended and shall read as follows: "2.60.040 Disposition of Property Unless otherwise herein directed, all property remaining unclaimed and in the custody of the Redlands Police Department after the expiration of two hundred ten (210) days from the date such property came into the custody of the Police Department, shall be disposed of by public auction. Pursuant to California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 217, bicycles and toys, unclaimed from Police Department custody for at least sixty (60) days, may, instead of being sold at public auction, be turned over the County Probation or Welfare Departments, or to any charitable or non-profit organization, for use in any program or activity designed to prevent juvenile delinquency, provided that such organization is authorized under its articles of incorporation to participate in a program or activity designed to prevent juvenile delinquency, and it is exempt from state and/or federal income tax. Currency and coin, except mounted coin collections, shall be given into the custody of the Treasurer of the City in exchange for a receipt thereof. Mounted coin collections remaining unclaimed shall be disposed of by sealed bid at public auction, which bid shall exceed the current actual face value of the coins contained in the collection. Such unclaimed property, as, in the opinion of the Chief of Police, would assist the Police Department in carrying out its mission, may be retained and any such retained property shall be included in the assets of the City and entered into the inventory of the Police Department." t SECTION TWO: This ordinance shall be in force and take effect as provided by law. SECTION THREE: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause it, or a summary of it, to be published in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the City.
