HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_1924_CCv0001.pdf ORDINANCE NO. 1924 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 347 OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE RELATING TO THE DETECTION AND CONTROL OF RABIES (RECODIFICATION PROJECT) THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1 . Section 34700 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 1134700. REPORTING OF PATIENT BITTEN BY RABID ANIMAL. It is the duty of every physician to report immediately to the Animal Control Supervisor or any of his officers the full name, age and address of any person under his care or observa- tion who has been bitten by an animal having or suspected of having rabies . " SECTION 2 . Section 34701 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows : 1034701 . REPORT BY PARENT. If no physician is in attendance and the person bitten is a child, it is the duty of the parent or guardian to make such report immediately. " SECTION 3 . Section 34702 of the Redlands Ordina-. ce Code is hereby amended to read as follows : 1134702 . REPORTS GENERALLY. If the person bitten is an adult, such person shall make the report . If the person bitten is incapacitated, the report shall be made by whomever is caring for the person bitten. " SECTION 4 . Section 34703 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows : "34703. REPORTING AND CONFINEMENT OF RABID ANIMAL. It is the duty of every person having knowledge of the existence of an animal apparently afflicted with rabies to report immediately to an animal control officer or to the Chief of Police the existence and description of such animal , the place where seen, the owner ' s name, if known, and the symptoms suggesting rabies. The owner or person having custody or possession of any animal that shows symptoms of rabies shall immediately confine the animal and notify an animal control officer or the Chief of Police, and shall keep the animal confined until it is determined whether the animal is rabid. " SECTION 5 . Article 347 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended by the addition of. Section 34703A, which shall read as follows: "34703A. RABID BITE -- CONFINEMENT OF ANIMAL BITTEN. Whenever any animal is bitten by another animal that has o - is suspected of having rabies, the owner or person having custody or possession of the animal bitten shall either destroy the animal or confine it and keep it confined for a period of six months . if the owner or person having custody or possession of the animal refuses or is unable to confine the animal , the Poundmaster or his representatives may quarantine the animal until it is deter- mined whether the animal has contracted rabies . " SECTION 6 . Sections 34704 and 34705 of the Redlands Ordinance Code are hereby repealed. -2- SECTION 7 . Article 347 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 34705A, which shall read as follows : 1134705A. OFFICIAL OBSERVES SYMPTOMS OF RABIES -- MAY CAUSE EXAMINATION. If it reasonably appears to any animal control officer that a dog or other animal has rabies, he or his representatives may hold said animal for examination by a licensed veterinarian until it is determined that the animal is free of rabies. " SECTION 8 . Section 34706 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows : "34706 . ALLOWI3C EXAMINATION OF ,ANIMALS. The owner or person having custody or possession of any animal that shows symptoms of rabies, or has actEd in a manner which would lead to a reasonable suspicion that it might have rabies , shall allow the Animal Control Supervisor or his officers to make an inspection or examination of such animal until it is established that the animal either has or does not have rabies. " SECTION 9 . Section 34707 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows : "34707 . ACCESS TO CARCASS. The owner or person having custody of an animal suspected of having rabies shall surrender the carcass of the animal , or such portion of the carcass as may be demanded by any animal control officer after the death of the animal . " -3- SECTION 10 . Section 34708 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows : "34708. VETERINERIAN ' S DUTY TO QUARANTINE. It is the duty of all veterinarians to hold in quarantine any animal showing symptoms of rabies, until the disposition of the animal by the Animal Control Supervisor or any of his officers . " SECTION 11 . Section 34709 of the Redlands Ordinance Code is hereby repealed. SECTION 12 . This Ordinance shall be in force and take effect as provided by lay-. SECTION 13 .
