AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 563 OF THE
REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE, RELATING TO THE
IMPOUNDING OF STRAY ANIMALS (RECODIFICATION
PROJECT)
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 . Sections 56301, 56302 , 56303 and 56304
of the Redlands Ordinance Code are hereby repealed.
SECTION 2 . Article 563 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 56305,
which shall read as follows :
°'56305. IMPOUNDMENT OF UNRESTRAINED
DOGS. Any dog, whether licensed or not ,
found running loose or unrestrained may
be impounded by the Poundmaster or any
animal control officer , or by the Chief
of Police or any of his authorized
officers , for a period of seventy-two
hours, and if the owner or possessor of
such impounded dog does not , before the
expiration of said period, call for and
claim the dog and pay pound fees plus a.
fee for cost of apprehension, as set by
the City, the Poundmaster is empowered to
destroy and dispose of such dog , or cause
such destruction and disposal.
SECTION 3 . Article 563 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 56306,
which shall read as follows :
"56306 . CONFINEMENT OF CAPTURED DOG.
The officers or persons capturing a dog
under the provisions of Section 56305
shall confine said dog in some safe place
and, if the dog shows signs of rabies or
other disease, shall submit the dog for
examination by a licensed veterinarian. "
SECTION 4 . Article 563 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 56307,
which shall read as follows :
"56307 . RELEASE OF IMPOUNDED DOGS. If
any dog impounded under the provisions of
this Article has not been vaccinated as
provided in Article 572 , the owner or
person entitled to custody of the dog
shall pay an additional sum, as set by
the City, for the keeping of the dog , and
shall comply with the provisions of
Articles 571 and 572 before the dog may
be returned. "
SECTION 5 . Article 563 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 56308,
which shall read as follows :
1156308 . DISPOSAL OF SMALL ANIMALS ON
REQUEST OF OWNER. The owner of a small
animal may request arrangements for the
disposal of such animal . The Poundmaster
shall endeavor to comply with such
request, provided that the animal is
delivered by the owner to a place and at
a time requested by the Poundmaster or
his representative. The person
delivering the animal for disposal shall
post a disposal fee, as set by the City. "
SECTION 6 . Article 563 of the Redlands Ordinance
Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 56309 ,
which shall provide as follows :
1156309 . IMPOUNDING OF CATTLE. It is the
duty of the Poundmaster or his repre-
sentatives to take up, impound and safely
keep any cattle found running at large in

this City, and to receive and impound any
such cattle taken up and delivered by any
person. When any such animal is so
impounded, the Poundmaster shall notify
the owner thereof, if known. If the
owner is not known, notice shall be
posted in front of the City Hall and at
two other public places in this City.
The notice shall contain a description of
the animal , and shall state that , unless
reclaimed, the animal will be sold at
public auction at a time and place to be
specified in the notice, which time shall
not be less than five days from the date
the notice is posted.. If the animal is
not reclaimed before the expiration of
the time specified in the notice, the
Poundmaster may sell the animal at public
auction to the highest bidder . If the
animal is reclaimed by its owner , the
owner shall pay an impounding fee, as set
by the City, before taking possession of
the animal . "
SECTION 7 . This Ordinance shall be in force and
take effect as provided by law.
SECTION 8 . The Mayor shall sign this Ordinance,
and the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Ordinance and cause it or a summary of it to be published
once in the Redlands daily Facts, a newspaper of general
circulation printed and published in this City.
