AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING
CHAPTER 84 OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE AND ORDINANCE NO. 1729
RELATING TO THE FIRE RESISTANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF ROOF COVERINGS

as follows:
SECTION ONE: PURPOSE
Pursuant to California Health and Safety Code
Sections 17958 . 5 and 17958 .7, the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Redlands find that certain
changes and modifications in the provisions of
state building standards are necessary because of
local conditions . The changes and modifications
relate to Section 1704 of the Uniform Building
Code, 1979 editions, and are set forth in Section
2 of this ordinance. The local conditions which
necessitate the changes are the low humidity
climatic conditions together with high summer tem-
peratures and wind which periodically expose this
community to high fire hazard conditions . The
history of local fires demonstrates the danger and
provides evidence of the need for changes and modi-
fications.
SECTION TWO: That § 84004 of the Redlands Ordinance Code and
Ordinance No. 1729 be amended to read as follows :
§ 84004 . That Section 1704, ROOFS, be amended
to read as follows:

except that wood roof coverings shall have a

(b) The roof covering classification zone map shall
be filed in the office of the City Clerk and
copies of said map shall be on file in the
office of the Department of Building and Safety
and the Central Fire Station.

during the month of June and shall update said
map as required using a distance of approximately
1, 000 feet from concentrations of natural growth
such as brush or trees which would propagate fire
as a criteria for said roof covering classifica-
tion zone map.
SECTION FOUR: This ordinance shall be in force and take
effect as provided by law.
