HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_1752_CCv0001.pdf ORDINANCE NO. 1752 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING CHAPTER 84 OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE AND ORDINANCE NO. 1729 RELATING TO THE FIRE RESISTANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF ROOF COVERINGS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS does hereby ordain as follows: SECTION ONE: PURPOSE Pursuant to California Health and Safety Code Sections 17958 . 5 and 17958 .7, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Redlands find that certain changes and modifications in the provisions of state building standards are necessary because of local conditions . The changes and modifications relate to Section 1704 of the Uniform Building Code, 1979 editions, and are set forth in Section 2 of this ordinance. The local conditions which necessitate the changes are the low humidity climatic conditions together with high summer tem- peratures and wind which periodically expose this community to high fire hazard conditions . The history of local fires demonstrates the danger and provides evidence of the need for changes and modi- fications. SECTION TWO: That § 84004 of the Redlands Ordinance Code and Ordinance No. 1729 be amended to read as follows : § 84004 . That Section 1704, ROOFS, be amended to read as follows: SUCTION 1704 . ROOF COVERINGS SHALL BE FIRE RETARDENT, with the following exceptions. {al In areas located outside the boundaries of the high fire hazard area as designated by the Chief of the Redlands Fire Department on an official map titled "Roof Covering Classification Zone Map, " ordinary roof coverings may be installed in buildings of Group R-3 and Group M occupancies except that wood roof coverings shall have a minimum of a Class C rating for these occupancies . (b) The roof covering classification zone map shall be filed in the office of the City Clerk and copies of said map shall be on file in the office of the Department of Building and Safety and the Central Fire Station. The Chief of the Redlands Fire Department will review the roof classification zone map yearly during the month of June and shall update said map as required using a distance of approximately 1, 000 feet from concentrations of natural growth such as brush or trees which would propagate fire as a criteria for said roof covering classifica- tion zone map. SECTION FOUR: This ordinance shall be in force and take effect as provided by law. SECTION FIVE: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation printed and pub- lished in the City of Redlands.
