AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING CHAPTER 12.54
OF THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE PROHIBITION
OF SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 12.54 of the Redlands Municipal Code relating to smoking in public
places is hereby deleted in its entirety and reenacted to read as follows:
"Chapter 12.54
Public Places— Smoking Prohibited
12.54.010 Definitions.
A. "Park"-for purposes of this Chapter, "Park"means any public park or portion of a public
park, such as picnic areas, located within the City and includes any City--owned recreational areas
including, for example, the Redlands Bowl, the Avice Meeker Sewall Theater and the Redlands
Sports Park.
B. "Smoking"— forpurposes of this Chapter, "Smoking"means inhaling,exhaling,burning
or carrying any lighted cigar, cigarette, weed, plant or other combustible substance that is inhaled
or exhaled in any form or manner.
C. "Tobacco Products" - for purposes of this Chapter, "Tobacco Products" means any
substance containing tobacco leaf,including but not limited to cigarettes,cigars,pipe tobacco,snuff,
chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, bidis or any other preparation of tobacco.
12.54.020 Public Parks. Except for those persons participating in an authorized
performance at the Redlands Bowl or at the Avice Meeker Sewall Theater, Smoking is prohibited
within all public parks in the City.
12.54.030 Public Notice. "No Smoking" or"Smoke-Free"signs, with letters of no less
than one-inch in height, or with the international "No Smoking" symbol (consisting of a pictorial
representation of a burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle with a bar across it), shall be clearly,
sufficiently and conspicuously posted by the City in every public park in which smoking is
prohibited by this Chapter. Signage shall include the City phone number where complaints may be
directed.
12.54.040 Disposal. No person shall dispose of Smoking waste or Tobacco Product
waste within the boundaries of a public park except in a designated waste disposal container.

12.54.050 Reprisal. No person shall intimidate, threaten any reprisal, or effect any
reprisal, for the purpose of retaliating against another person who seeks to attain compliance with
this Chapter.
12.54.060 Enforcement and Penalty. The remedies provided by this Chapter are
cumulative and in addition to any other remedies available at law or in equity.
A. Causing, permitting, aiding, abetting or concealing a violation of this Chapter shall
also constitute a violation of this Chapter.
B. All violations of this Chapter shall be misdemeanors.
C. Violations of this Chapter are hereby declared to be public nuisances."
Section 2. The Mayor shalt sign this ordinance and the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this ordinance and cause it, or a summary of it, to be published once in the Redlands
Daily Facts,a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the City;and thereafter,this
ordinance shall take effect in accordance with law.
