AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
AMENDING CHAPTER 12 . 12 OF THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO STREET CLOSINGS
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code Section 21101 empowers the City to
adopt ordinances relating to the temporary closing of streets
for celebrations, parades, local special events, and other
purposes for the purpose of protecting the persons who are to
use those streets during the temporary closing; and
WHEREAS, the City from time to time holds celebrations,
parades, special events and other activities on City streets
and such activities create a safety risk to the participants
in these events if motor vehicles are permitted to use the
streets at the same time; and
WHEREAS, the City is sponsoring the "Redlands Bicycle
Classic" , a bicycle race in which certain City streets will
be utilized to conduct the race; and
WHEREAS, the Redlands Bicycle Classic is scheduled to
occur on May 26 , 1990 and the safety of the participants in
the Redlands Bicycle Classic would be jeopardized if the City
were unable to close the streets in question to all motor
vehicle traffic; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that this
ordinance must be passed immediately upon introduction as an
urgency ordinance under Government Code Section 36934 in
order to properly protect the safety of those participating
in the Redlands Bicycle Classic;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redlands
does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 12.12 of Title 12 of the Redlands
Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding Section 12 . 12.150
to read as follows:
"12 . 12 .150 . TEMPORARY STREET CLOSINGS.
The Chief of Police or the City Engineer
may temporarily close any portion of any
streert for celebrations, parades, local
special events, and other purposes when,
in the opinion of the Police Chief or the
City Engineer, such a street closing is
necessary for the safety and protection
of persons who are to use that portion of
the street during the temporary closing. "
SECTION 2 . This ordinance shall take effect immediately.
SECTION 3 . The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this ordinance and cause it, or a summary of it, to be
published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of
general circulation printed and published in this City.
