AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING ORDINANCE NO . 1235
ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ESTABLISHING THE
REGULATION OF EXCAVATIONS AND FILLS FOR ANY LOT, SUBDIVISION OR
PARCEL OF GROUND. "
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS -,
Section 1. 00 shall be and is hereby amended -
SECTION 1 .00 INTENT AND PURPOSE
The purpose of this Ordinance is to safeguard life , health
limb, property and public welfare by regulating and control-
ling the design, construction, quality of materials , and
location of all buildings and structures erected or to be
erected, and certain grading within the City of Redlands.
The provisions of this chapter are supplementary and in
addition to the subdivision ordinance and the zoning ordi-
nance of the city and shall be read and construed in connection
with and as an integrated part of the zoning ordinance and
subdivision ordinance and the patterns of land development
control established thereby.
In adopting this Ordinance , the City Council declares the
regulations and standards established herein to be the
reasonable regulations necessary to protect the health,
safety and general welfare, to promote a superior community
environment, and insofar as it is economically feasible, to
ensure the maximum possible preservation of the natural
scenic character of major portions of the city, by establish-
ing minimum standards and requirements relating to land
grading, excavations and fills , and procedures by which these
standards and requirements may be enforced. It is .intended
that this chapter be administered with the foregoing purposes
in mind and with a view to :
(a) Ensuring that future development of lands , particu-
larly in the hilly areas of the city, occurs in the manner
most compatible with surrounding areas and so as to have the
least adverse effect upon other persons or lands , or upon the
general public ;
(b) Ensuring that sail will not be stripped and removed
from lands in the more scenic parts of the city, leaving the
same barren, unsightly, unproductive , and subject to erosion
and the hazards of subsidence and faulty drainage ;
(c) Encouraging the planning, design and development
of building sites in such fashion as to provide the maximum
in safety and human enjoyment , whale adapting development to
and taking advantage to the best use of the natural terrain;
(d) Encouraging and directing special attention toward
the retaining insofar as practical, the natural planting and
a maximum number of existing trees ,
Section Two : Before adopting this Ordinance , the City Council
held a public hearing, notice of which was published once in the
City of Redlands on the sixth day of February, 1965, ten days
before the hearing.
Section. Three - This ordinance shall be in force and take effect
as provided by law®
Section. Foura The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the
Redlands Daily Facts , a newspaper of general circulation printed
and published in this city.

the City Council of the City of Redlands at a regular meeting
thereof held on the 16th day of February, 1965 by the following
vote :
