AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ADOPTING AND
ESTABLISHING RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE DESIGN,
CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLATION, QUALITY OF MATERIALS,
LOCATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF HEATING,
VENTILATING, COMFORT COOLING, REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS,
INCINERATORS AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS HEAT-PRODUCING
APPLIANCES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION ONE: This Ordinance shall be known as the "Uniform
Mechanical Code. "
SECTION TWO: Those certain rules and regulations which apply
to the erection, installation, alteration, repair, relocation, re-
placement, addition to, use, or maintenance of any heating, ventila-
ting, comfort cooling, refrigeration systems, incinerators or other
miscellaneous heat--producing appliances, as set forth in that cer-
tain Code printed in booklet form, and entitled "Uniform Mechanical
Code, 1967 Edition, " and prepared and promulgated jointly by the
International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO)
and the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) , three
(3) copies of which Code have heretofore been filed in the Office of
the City Clerk of the City of Redlands, and which copies are identi-
fied by certificates attached thereto, reading as follows:
"I , Peggy A. Moseley, hereby certify that the three
annexed copies of the Code entitled, 'Uniform Mechanical
Code, 1967 Edition, ' were filed in the Office of the City
Clerk of the City of Redlands on the 15th day of September,
1967, and are true, correct and complete copies of said Code
which is sought to be adopted by reference by Ordinance of
the City Council of said City.

be and the same are hereby established as rules and regulations and
a Code of said City; and each and every part of said Code, and each
and every reference as the "Uniform Mechanical. Code, 1967 Edition, "
is made a part hereof as fully as though set forth at length in this
Ordinance, except as hereinafter provided.
SECTION THREE: The following titles, articles, sections and
provisions of the Uniform Mechanical Code, 1967 Edition, are hereby
amended to read as follows:
Section 201: Change of Name. As used in this section and
elsewhere in said Code the term "Building Official" shall be amended
to read "Director of Building and Safety. "
Section 203: Board of Appeal . The Board of Appeal and the
procedures concerning its operation as stated in the City of Redlands
Ordinance adopting the Uniform Building Code, Volume One, shall also
apply to all appeals resulting from the administration of this Code.
Section 301: The first paragraph of Section 301 shall be
changed as follows: "No person shall install, alter, reconstruct or
repair any heating, ventilating, comfort cooling, refrigeration sys-
tems, incinerators or other miscellaneous heat-producing equipment
unless a permit therefor has been obtained from the Building Official
except as otherwise provided in this Code. No permit shall, be issued
for the installation of an incinerator unless prior approval has been
granted by the San Bernardino County Air Pollution Control District
(APCD) , the jurisdictional agency responsible for air pollution con-
trol. "
Section 302 (b) 1. Any Group A, B, C, D, E, F, H and I Occu-
pancy.
Section 710 (e) Electrical appliances . Each appliance shall
have an accessible disconnect switch adjacent to and outside of the
unit.
Section 710 (g) EXCEPTION: The requirement of paragraphs ( f)
and (g) above shall not apply if the slope of the roof is not more
than three inches (3") measured vertically to twelve inches (12")
measured horizontally, and a gas shut-off is installed at a location
readily accessible without the use of a portable ladder. The para-
graphs also do not apply to Group I or J Occupancies of not more
than two stories in height, if an accessible gas shut-off is installed.
Section 1107 (j ) Clearance. Every duct system shall have a
clearance from combustible construction of not less than eighteen
inches (18" ) . This clearance may be reduced as shown in Table No.
5 B .
Section 1404: The last paragraph shall be changed to read "Each
appliance shall have an accessible disconnect switch adjacent to and
outside of the unit. "
SECTION FOUR: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to erect, install, alter, repair, relocate, add to, re-
place, use, or maintain heating, ventilating, comfort cooling, or
refrigeration equipment in this jurisdiction, or cause the same to
be done, contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this
Code. Maintenance of equipment which was unlawful at the time it was
installed and which would be unlawful under this Code if installed
after the effective date of this Code, shall constitute a continuing
violation of this Code.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions
of this Code shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and each such

person shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each and
every day or portion thereof during which any violation of any of
the provisions of this Code is committed, continued, or permitted,
and upon conviction of any such violation such person shall be
punishable by a fine of not more than $500 . 00, or imprisonment for
not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION FIVE: Each provision of this Ordinance shall be sepa-
rate and severable and in the event any specific provision is de-
clared void or invalid, no other section, otherwise legal and valid,
shall be affected thereby.
SECTION SIX: This Ordinance shall be in force and effect as
provided by law.
SECTION SEVEN: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of
this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the
Redlands Daily Facts, a daily newspaper hereby designated for that
purpose.
