AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING CHAPTER
18.164 OF THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO OFF-
STREET PARKING REQUIREMENTS FOR NONRESIDENTIAL USES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 18.164.240 of the Redlands Municipal Code relating to the off-
street parking requirements for nonresidential uses is hereby deleted in its entirety and
rewritten to read as follows:
"18.164.240 Number of Spaces -- Specific Uses Designated:
The number of off street parking spaces or amount of parking area required for each
listed use shall be not less than that set forth in this section. Whenever more than one
method of calculating the required number of spaces or area is indicated, the method
which provides the greatest number of spaces shall apply.
A. Commercial Uses Parking Requirement
Shopping centers 100,000 sq.ft. 1 space/250 sq.ft of gross floor area
and greater.
Neighborhood center 1 space/200 sq.ft.of gross floor area.
Hotels/motels 1,1 spacelsleeping unit
Retail trade(includes dept.Stores) 1 space/250 sq.ft.of gross floor area
Retail furniture/appliance 1 space/400 sq.ft. of gross floor area; and
1 space/each 2 employees
Restaurants,sit-down (with or 1 space/3 seats or,
without liquor and/or entertainment) 1 space/50 sq.ft.serving area,whichever is larger; and
1 space for each 2 employees; minimum of 10 spaces
Restaurants Drive-through 1 space/3 seats or,
1 space/50 sq.ft. serving area,whichever is larger; and
1 space for each 2 employees; minimum of 10 spaces; and
with an additional 6 stacking spaces provided for drive through service
operation
Wholesale Trade 1 space/2 employees and
1 space for each company vehicle;or
1 space/1,000 sq.ft. of gross floor area,whichever is greater.
Automobile& Machinery Sales 1 space/2,000 sq.ft. of open area devoted to display or sales; provided
that where such area exceeds 10,000 sq.ft., 1 space shall be required 1
each 5,000 sq,ft. in excess of 10,000 sq. ft.; and 5 spaces/auto service
bay
B. Business Services Parking Requirement
Flail terminals 1 space1100 sq.ft.of gross floor area.
Bus Terminals 1 spacel100 sq.ft. of gross floor area.
Office(Real Estate, Insurance, 1 space/250 sq,ft. of gross floor area; minimum of 4 spaces
Advertising Legal, etc.)
Banks, Financial 1 space/200 sq.ft.of gross floor area; minimum of 4 spaces;and a
Institutions minimum of 6 stacking spaces for drive-through service operations
Repair services 1 space/400 sq.ft.of gross floor area
Automobile repair 5 spaces/service bay;minimum of 6 spaces
Contractor's Yard 1 space12 employees and
1 space for each company vehicle
Warehousing 1 space/500 sq.ft.of gross floor area up to 20,000 sq.ft.
1 space per 1000 sq.ft. over 20,000 sq.ft.
Automated Warehousing 1 space/1000 sq.ft, of gross floor area or
1 space/each employee on the largest shift,whichever is larger
(NOTE: requirement may be reduced if applicant submits fetter justifying
reduction of spaces; however, adequate area for expansion of parking
shall be provided in case of conversion of use)
Car Wash,self serve 2 drying spaces per washing stall
Car wash,automated 1 space/employee on the largest shift
Service station/mini-mart 1 space/250 sq.ft.of gross floor area
C. Professional Services Parking Requirement
Medical, Dental Offices 1 space1200 sq.ft.of gross floor area; minimum of 5 spaces per office
Hospitals 1 spacelpatlent bed plus 1 space for every employee and staff member on
largest shift
Convalescent hospitals/Nursing 1 spac03 beds; plus 1 space/each employee on the Largest shift
homes
Veterinary Hospital 6 spaces minimum up to 1,000 sq,ft.of gross floor area, plus
1 space/each 250 sq.ft. in excess of 1,000 sq.ft.

D. Educational Services Parking Requirement
Child Care 1 space/employee and
1 space/5 children; minimum of 4 spaces
Elementary School 5 spaces plus
1 for each classroom
High School 1 space/5 students plus
1 space/staff member and employee
CollegelUniversity 1 space/3 enrolled day time students and
1 space/staff member and faculty personnel
TradeNocational/ 1 space/3 students plus
Business 1 space/staff member and faculty personnel
E. Entertainment Parking Requirement
Theater/Auditodum For theaters with 6 or fewer screens and all other public assembly uses- 1
space/5 fixed seats,where structures other than fixed seats are provided
18 inches of linear seating equals 1 seat;
For theaters with more than 6 screens- 1 space/6 fixed seats.
For all public assembly uses, no additional parking shall be required for
non-seating area. Where no fixed seats are provided for every 40 sq.ft.
of gross floor area which spectators will be seated.
Skating Rinks 1 space/3 fixed seats and for every 20 sq.ft.of seating area where there
are no fixed seats and
1 space for each 250 sq.ft.of skating area
(24 linear inches of bench shall be considered a fixed seat)
Dance Hall 1 space/20 sq.ft.of dance floor area and
1 space/3 fixed seats or 1 space per 20 sq.ft.of seating where there are
no fixed seats
Bowling Alleys 5 spaces/each bowling lane and
2 spaces/billiard table
Billiard Parlor 2 spaces/billiard table
Parks, Pool,etc. To be determined based upon an evaluation of the park and its activities
through the conditional use permit process
Golf Course 10 spaces for each hole, and 1 space/250 sq.ft.of gross floor area for
other commercial uses
Amusement Enterprises 1 space/4 persons using facilities
Organized Camp 11.5 spaces/staff member or employee
F. Miscellaneous Parking Requirement
Church 1 space/3 fixed seats or
1 space/40 sq. ft. of floor space designated for assembly purposes
Private Clubs/Lodges 1 space for each 50 sq.ft.for floor area designated for assembly
purposes
Chapels/Mortuaries 1 space/5 fixed seats of all area used for assembly or
1 space/40 sq.ft. of assembly area,
Also, 1 space per vehicle used in connection to the use
Manufacturing 1 space/500 sq. ft.of gross floor area or
1 space/employee on the largest shift, whichever is greater
Government Buildings 1 space/250 sq.ft. of gross floor area
(public use)
Government Building 1 space/250 sq. ft. of gross floor space or
(little public use) 1 space per employee"
Section 2. The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this ordinance and shall cause it, or a summary of it, to be published once in
the Redlands daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation within the City and thereafter,
this ordinance shall take effect as provided by law.
