HomeMy WebLinkAbout2982RESOLUTION NO. 2982 A RESOLUTION OF TRIBUTE UPON THE TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE AND NORTON AIR FORCE BASE WHEREAS, today we are celebrating the Twenty-fifth Anniver- sary of the establishment of the Air Force as a separate service, and WHEREAS, the United States Air Force was so established under the direction of President Harry S. Truman on September 18, 1947, and, WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base has provided security and defense for the nation and for communities of Southern California such as the City of Redlands, through five periods of international crisis and war; and, WHEREAS, the base has made significant contribution to the quality of citizens and leaders who have made their homes in Redlands during the time of their assignment as military officers and employees and after retirement; and, WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base, which was so named on March 2, 1950, for a brave and courageous airman who was killed on May 27, 1944 in France, wearing the colors of his beloved United States of America, and, WHEREAS, the families of Norton personnel, and particularly their young members who have been excellent students in the Redlands School System, have brought credit in academic, cultural and athletic fields; and, WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base has been a friendly and con- structive neighbor of the City of Redlands, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the City Council, on behalf of the people of the City of Redlands, congratulates the Air Force on its Twenty-fifth Anniversary and such units as Norton Air Force Base. 2. That the City Council expresses its heartfelt appreci- ation for the United States Air Force and for Norton Air Force Base's many contributions to the Redlands community - by its officers and employees in offering community service and leadership - its families in giving Redlands renewed vitality and spirit in com- munity life - and its role in providing defense, security and important social and economic values to the City of Redlands ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 19th day of September, 1972.
