HomeMy WebLinkAbout2875RESOLUTION NO. 2875 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS URGING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO REMAIN A MEMBER OF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTS WHEREAS, the Southern California Association of Governments (SLAG) was formed in 1965 to preserve home rule and act as a barrier to a threatening encroachment by state and federal agencies into local government, and it has struggled with such massive problems as air pollution, airports, transportation, water and recreation; and WHEREAS, these are problems that cut across city and county lines, even state and national boundaries, and experience has shown that individual cities and counties cannot cope with them alone; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to drop out of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), thus voting to withdraw the county's substantial financial support; and WHEREAS, the need remains for a semiofficial agency, such as SCAG, to serve that purpose, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands wishes to go on record as urging the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to reconsider its position in order to remain as a most important member of the Southern California Asso- ciation of Governments.
