HomeMy WebLinkAbout2657EXHIBIT "A" RESOLUTION NO. 2657 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLAN'DS AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION TO THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION FOR ALLOCATION FROM THE STATE CROSSING PROTECTION FUND FOR CROSSING PROTECTION INSTALLED AT GROVE STREET AND THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY CROSSING. WHEREAS, the 1953 Legislature, by Statute 1953, Chapter 1739, appropriated $500,000.00 from the State Highway Fund to the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California for allocation by said Commission to cities and counties, on the basis of need, as determined by said Commission, to assist them in paying their share of cost of constructing grade crossing protection work on city and county streets, roads and highways; and WHEREAS., on January 18, 1954, the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California issued Commission Order No. 49565, as amended pursuant to said statute, establishing procedures to be followed by cities and counties in requesting such allocation from the Crossing Protection Puna; and WHEREAS, the City of Redlands is willing to participate in the installation of warning devices at Crossing No. BP-549.2 and pay its share of cost for the above mentioned work to be done by the Southern Pacific Company, City's estimated share being $4,550.00. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS: The signatures of the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to appear on the submitted application to the Public Utilities Commission for allocation by the Public Utilities Commission in accordance with the rules and regulations of said Commission. P. U. C. Designation No. BP-549.2 REQUEST FOR ALLOCATION OF FUNDS The City of Redlands, State of California, hereby requests the Public Utilities Commission to make an allocation to applicant from the Cross- ing Protection Fund in the maximum amount of $2,275.00; such allocation, however, not to exceed one-half of the actual costs of construction protection at the crossing of the tracks of the Southern Pacific Company and Grove Street, being Crossing No. BP-549.2. 1. Attached as Exhibit A is a true copy of a resolution adopted by the legislative body of applicant authorizing the submission of this request. 2. The present protection at the crossing consists of two standard No. 1 signs. 3. The proposed protection at the crossing is two No. 8 flashing light signals with automatic crossing gates. 4. Vehicular traffic count is 1500 with two train movements during a typical 24 hour weekday period. 5. Attached as Exhibit B is an estimate of the cost of installing the protection. The estimate was provided by the Southern Pacific Company. CITY OF REDLANDS- CALIFORNIA Public Utilities Commission January 15, 1968 6. Attached as Exhibit C is a true copy of the executed agreement as prepared by the Southern Pacific Company for the installation of the protection devices described in paragraph 3 and the division of the costs thereof. 7. The City of Redlands is willing and able to participate in the costs of construction in' the amount of $2,275.00 over and above the amount of the requested allocation; said amount is presently available. 8. The City of Redlands has not expended monies for crossing protec- tion during the previous three fiscal years, budgeted or available during the present fiscal year is $40,000.00. 9. Grove Street is a primary street in the City of Redlands arterial system. The ultimate Average Dailey Traffic Count (A.D.T.) will be in the range of 6,000 vehicles. The upgrading of protection as described in paragraphs 2 and 2 was ordered by the Public Utilities Commission under Decision No. 71971. WHEREFORE, applicant requests an appropriate allocation from the Cross- ing Protection Fund. Dated at Redlands, California, this 16th day of January , 1968. Waldo F. Burroughs' Mayor Waldo F.
