RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS REQUESTING
EARLY CONSTRUCTION OF A PORTION OF STATE ROUTE 106
WHEREAS, the precise alignment for State Route 106 has been
approved connecting the San Bernardino Freeway and State Highway
30;
WHEREAS, this section of the freeway is urgently needed to
provide an all weather route across the Santa Ana River;
WHEREAS, the Alabama Street crossing is not adequate for this
purpose and the construction of bridges is not feasible since the
freeway will be a parallel and adjacent route;
WHEREAS, Alabama Street and Orange Street (State Routes 106
and 38) are already heavily congested with both weekend traffic
to the mountains and normal traffic on week days;
WHEREAS, this section of State Route 106 would relieve the
congestion of local streets and materially assist the economy of
the San Bernardino - Redlands area;
WHEREAS, San Bernardino County, the cities of Redlands and
San Bernardino are now spending considerable sums of money repair-
ing Alabama Street after each rain;
WHEREAS, this Section of the State Freeway would eliminate
the necessity for high level maintenance of Alabama Street;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
That the City Council of the City of Redlands does hereby
urge the State Highway Commission to establish an early construction
date for this section of the Foothill Freeway connecting the San
Bernardino Freeway with State Highway 30.
