HomeMy WebLinkAbout2622RESOLUTION NO. 2622 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS REQUESTING EARLY CONSTRUCTION OF A PORTION OF STATE ROUTE 106 WHEREAS, the precise alignment for State Route 106 has been approved connecting the San Bernardino Freeway and State Highway 30; WHEREAS, this section of the freeway is urgently needed to provide an all weather route across the Santa Ana River; WHEREAS, the Alabama Street crossing is not adequate for this purpose and the construction of bridges is not feasible since the freeway will be a parallel and adjacent route; WHEREAS, Alabama Street and Orange Street (State Routes 106 and 38) are already heavily congested with both weekend traffic to the mountains and normal traffic on week days; WHEREAS, this section of State Route 106 would relieve the congestion of local streets and materially assist the economy of the San Bernardino - Redlands area; WHEREAS, San Bernardino County, the cities of Redlands and San Bernardino are now spending considerable sums of money repair- ing Alabama Street after each rain; WHEREAS, this Section of the State Freeway would eliminate the necessity for high level maintenance of Alabama Street; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the City Council of the City of Redlands does hereby urge the State Highway Commission to establish an early construction date for this section of the Foothill Freeway connecting the San Bernardino Freeway with State Highway 30.
