A RESOLUTION OF THE UT! OF REDLANDS RE WATER POLLUTION.
WHEREAS, many cities in California are faced with the problem of abatement
of pollution of water supplies by the discharge of ABS detergent in excessive
amounts contained in sewage effluent, and
WHEREAS, the protection and preservation of potable water supplies as a
most important natural resource is necessary to the preservation and extension
of the economic and physical development of the state, and
WHEREAS, the problems of ABS pollutants extends on a state and nationwide
scope and appears increasingly acute and pressing, and
WHEREAS, each city or agency is involved in individual approach to a
solution, and
WHEREAS, a concerted joint effort by all interested concerns and public
agencies to achieve a solution should result in more definite results in the
solution of a problem for which no known, definite answer exists.
NOW THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS does resolve as
follows:
10 That the League of California Cities consider and adopt measures to
encourage and request the fullest possible cooperation of state and federal
agencies in conjunction with the manufacturers of detergents to work toward
a solution of this common prdblem.
2. That if no feasible dependable chemical, biological or mechanical
solution is realized that state and federal legislation be considered to
prohibit the production and use of ABS type detergents.
3. That this matter be discussed in group and general sessions during
the 67th annual conference of the League of California Cities,
4. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to The League of Calif-
ornia Cities, to our representives in the U.S. Congress and California State
Assembly, Board of Supervisors of San Bernardino County, and to the City
Councils of Cities of San Bernardino County.
