A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ACKNOW-
LEDGING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE PROBLEMS OF HOMELESS FAMILIES AND
PLEDGING ITS SUPPORT TO THE AD HOC COMMITTEE IN ITS EFFORTS TO
ADDRESS A BROAD SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM
WHEREAS, homelessness in America is on the rise; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Social Services reports an average
of five families per month from the Redlands , Mentone, and Bryn
Mawr area that request help with housing; and
WHEREAS, there is an increasing interest in the integrity of
the family and the importance the home plays in the health of the
family; and
WHEREAS, that nationally the number of American families
sharing their homes in 1982 was up 58 percent, the first increase
since 1950 ; and
WHEREAS , there is a need to provide interim housing to aid
families in becoming re-established; and
WHEREAS, there has been formed an Ad Hoc Committee for home-
less families consisting of concerned leaders from local churches ,
governmental agencies , health care facilities, businesses, and
service organizations; and
WHEREAS , that coping with homelessness requires the melding
of public and private efforts and that providing shelter is only
part of the solution, providing personal contact and friendship
is essential also; and
WHEREAS , the Housing Commission of the City of Redlands has
acted to support the efforts of the Ad Hoc Committee and acknow-
ledges the seriousness of the problems of homeless families;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Redlands that it hereby acknowledges the seriousness of
the problem of homeless families and pledges its support to the
Ad Hoc Committee in its efforts to address a broad solution to
the problem.
