HomeMy WebLinkAbout8165RESOLUTION NO 8165 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS IDENTIFYING "LANDMARK" TREES THROUGHOUT THE CITY WHEREAS, Chapter 2 3 of the City of Redlands' General Plan acknowledges that the many trees located on public and private property are among the most valuable resources within the City's community and establishes policies to promote and encourage their longevity and health, and the overall protection of the City's urban forest for present and future generations, and WHEREAS, Redlands' General Plan Pnnciple 2-P 18 provides that the City should bolster the City's identity as a "Tree City" through the design and improvements of cohesive streetscapes that protect the City's urban forest, enhance the City's sense of place and heritage, and that promotes pedestrian comfort, and WHEREAS, the Street Tree Committee, at its meeting of Octobei 22, 2020, wholeheartedly recommended that those certain City -owned street trees identified by this Resolution should be recognized as having special status as "Landmark Trees," and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to implement the Street Tree Committee's recommendation and identify certain City -owned street trees having special status and to have them be known as "Landmark Trees," as more specifically identified in Exhibit "A," attached hereto, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Redlands as follows Section 1 That approval of this Resolution is exempt fiom environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to Section 15061(b)(3) of the State's Guidelines implementing CEQA Section 2 That the City -owned street trees identified in Exhibit "A," are hereby designated as "Landmark Trees " Section 3 This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 16t1i ay of March, 2021 ATTEST e Donaldson, City Clerk 1 Paul T Banch, Mayor 1 \Resolutions\Res 8100 8199\8165 Landmark Tree Desienation.docx I, Jeanne Donaldson, City Clerk of the City of Redlands, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the 16t1i day of March, 2021, by the following vote AYES Councilmembers Davis, Fostei, Guzman -Lowery, Tejeda, Mayoi Bauch NOES None ABSENT None ABSTAINED None 2 e Donaldson, City Clerk 1 \Resolutions\Res 8100 8199\8165 Landmark Tree Destgnatton.docx EXHIBIT "A" STREET TREE COMMITTEE LANDMARK TREES, HERITAGE TREE ROWS AND STAND, AND SCENIC PRESERVATION PROJECT (Trees listed reflect current tree species as listed in the Street Tree Policy and Protection Guidelines Manual) Cypress Avenue/South Center Street — (Corner, planted by E G Judson and Frank E Brown) o 1 Magnolia tree o 2 Deodar cedar trees Brookside Avenue — (Center Median, between Lakeside Avenue to Eureka Street) o All Oak trees, including both sides of Brookside Avenue o All Palm trees, including both sides of Brookside Avenue State Street — (Downtown Redlands area, between Orange Street to 9th Street, including immediate side streets 5th to 8th streets between East Redlands Boulevard and Citrus Avenue) o All Indian Laurel Ficus trees in the downtown Redlands area, lining both sides of East State Street The Terrace Avenue — (Between North Church Street and 6111 Street, is The Terrace Park) o All Crape Myrtles and Oak trees in The Terrace Park East Colton Avenue — (Between North University Street and North Grove Street) o Row of Palm trees in center median and both sides between Church Street and Grove Street -
