RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE EAST BRANCH WHEREAS, the California Water Resources Bond Act., Senate Bill #1106, provides for financing the construction of the East Branch and the West Branch of the California Aqueduct System; and WHEREAS, the people of Califoniia did approve the aforesaid Bond Act in an election held November 8., 1960, with the understanding that the East and West Branches would be constructed simultaneously; and WHEREAS., there are contracting agencies who are not in the service area of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California but who are depending for their supplemental water supplies solely on the construction of the East Branch; and WHEREAS, the local underground basins are in a state of tremendous overdraft and in dire need of supplemental waters for replenishment; and WHEREAS, the construction of said East Branch will provide higher quality northern water and additional surface storage in Cedar Springs Reservoir and Perris Reservoir; and WHEREAS, the future economic growth in the area is dependent on construction of said East Branch, NOW, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the policy of the C�t Council of the City of Redlands is hereby declared to favor construction of the East Branch of the California Aqueduct System at the earliest possible date and either before or concurrently with the construction of the West Branch.
