A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA, ENTITLED AS FOLLOWS-
"RULES AND REGULATIONS TO GOVERN THE OPERATION OF THE HILLSIDE MEMORI-
AL PARK, REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA, A CEMETERY OWNED BY THE CITY OF
REDLANDS , CALIFORNIA, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, AND REPEALING RESOLU-
TION NO. 837 AND ALL OTHER RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT WITH RESOLUTION NO.
2591. "
The City Council of the City of Redlands does resolve as follows:
SECTION ONE: Sale, transfer and repurchase of lots and crypts.
(a) All lots sold within the bounds of said cemetery shall be
used for no purpose other than the interment of the human dead.
(b) The sale, transfer, or assignment of a burial lot in the
cemetery shall not be valid until an entry of such sale, transfer, or
assignment has been made upon the records of the cemetery.
(c) Repurchase of Cemetery Property.
(1) Ground Spaces. At the discretion of the Superintendent,
ground space may be repurchased by the Cemetery Fund. Price paid by the
Fund will not exceed one-third (1/3) of the current selling price of an
equivalent ground space in Hillside Memorial Park, excluding Endowment
Fee, or an amount equal to that received for the property the last time
it was sold, whichever is greater.
(2) Mausoleum Spaces .
a. New area (Blocks P, Q, and R)
At the discretion of the Superintendent crypts and
niches in this area may be repurchased by the
Cemetery Fund for an amount equal to the sales price
of the property the last time it was sold. (In-
cludes Endowment Fee) .
b. original area (Redlands Mausoleum) :
At the discretion of the Superintendent spaces in
this area may be repurchased by the Cemetery Fund.
Price paid by Fund will be as follows:
Niches: An amount equal to the price received by
the City the last time it was sold.
Crypts: $200 each. These, when available, will
be sold for $300 each. This price in-
cludes Endowment Fee.
(3) A processing and transfer fee of ten dollars ($10. 00)
will be charged on all property returns and transfers. This fee may
be waived by the Superintendent in instances where transfer or return
of property is advantageous to the City.
(d) A charge of $2.00 will be made for a new Certificate of owner-
ship, to replace original lost or stolen. A signed statement, certify-
ing to such loss or theft, will be required.
(e) The sale, transfer, or assignment of a burial lot in the
cemetery cannot be made after the natural interment has taken place
therein, unless and in accordance with all existing laws, all bodies
have been removed therefrom.
(f) Prices of lots, endowment costs, interment charges, sales
prices of resale merchandise, and other miscellaneous charges shall be
established and adjusted as necessary under separate resolution. Each
such resolution shall refer to this instrument as the basic authority
for the enactment thereof.
SECTION TWO: Vault, Monument and Marker Regulations.
(a) All markers shall be of first quality granite or bronze. only
flat markers of standard sizes set flush with the ground will be per-
mitted. Exception: Above ground monuments not to exceed six (6) inches
in height may be permitted by the Cemetery Superintendent only in in-
stances where adjacent graves of one family have had similar monuments
erected and which are in place at the time of enactment of this resolu-
tion.
(b) Only one marker may be placed upon any single grave or crypt.

(d) No bronze plates, inscriptions, or embellishments of any kind,
other than the regulation name plate will be permitted on mausoleum
crypts.
(e) No marker, or improvement of any kind other than the improve-
ments made by the Cemetery Superintendent will be permitted on any space
or lot until all cemetery charges for that space or lot have been paid
for in full. No markers permitted in an "unendowed" area unless the
$40.00 per space endowment care charge is paid. (Above term "unendowed"
area should not be interpreted to include uncared for section. )
(f) Signs indicating that a lot is for sale or advertisements of
any description will not be permitted within the cemetery; business
vehicles and organization markers are excepted.
(g) Papers and trash must be deposited in containers provided.
Picnicking on cemetery grounds is prohibited. No dogs are permitted on
cemetery grounds .
(h) The Cemetery Superintendent is charged with the responsibility
of entering upon any and all lots or spaces and to remove therefrom any
objectionable material that has been placed thereon.
SECTION THREE: Veterans ' Plot: Burial in the Redlands Hillside
Veterans ' Plot is authorized for the following:
(a) Any member or former member of the Armed Forces of the United
States whose last service terminated honorably by death or otherwise.
(b) Any citizen of the 1.31nited States who, during any war in which
the United States has been or may hereafter be engaged, served in the
Armed Forces of any Government allied with the United States during such
war, and whose last service terminated honorably, by death or otherwise.
(c) The wife, husband, widow, widower, minor child and, in the dis-
cretion of the Cemetery Superintendent, unmarried adult child of any of
the persons enumerated in paragraphs (a) and (b) above.
(d) The burial of a parent of an eligible veteran with the veteran
in the Redlands veterans ' Plot is authorized only for ash burials.
A remarried widow or widower or a divorced husband or wife of a
veteran is not eligible for burial in the Veterans ' Plot.
Authorized representatives of the deceased veteran must furnish
proof of his or her service connection by presenting honorable discharge
or other positive proof if discharge is not available.

SECTION FOUR: Interment Regulations.
(a) Laws of the State of California require a Burial Permit. No
interment will be permitted without such permit.
(b) opening of caskets at the Cemetery is not permitted except in
special circumstances when approved by the Cemetery Superintendent.
(c) Interments shall not be made in wooden boxes . only concrete
sectional boxes or concrete vaults with arched lid shall be used to pro-
tect the casket. In the uncared-for area of Section F, a burial without
the protective box shall be permitted in destitute cases.
(d) Double interments may be made only in a standard single space
(4 ' x 10 ' ) .
(e) Ashes may be interred in spaces already occupied by a body,
but not more than two ash interments with a body, or three ash inter-
ments without a body in a single ground space. one whole body and one
ash interment may be made in one crypt. No more than two ash inter-
ments may be made in one crypt.
(f) The Cemetery Superintendent, subject to the approval of the
City Manager, is authorized to cause the interment of any destitute
person, the proof of destitution to become the permanent record of the
Cemetery. Such interments to be made in the most inexpensive section of
the Cemetery.
(g) Interments may be made from 9:00 A.M. to 3: 30 P.M. Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 9: 00 A.M. to 12: 00 noon
on Saturday. Interments made at other times will be charged for at
overtime rates. Interments will not be made on Sundays, or Legal Holi-
days authorized City employees by the City Council, unless special ad-
vance arrangements are made with the Cemetery Superintendent. Author-
ized interments made on Sundays or Holidays will be charged for at over-
time rates.
A 24-hour notice is required for all interments. Upon receiving
such notices, the Superintendent shall cause all the necessary prepara-
tions to be made and work to be done in readiness therefor, at the ex-
pense of the mortician or person submitting such notice. in the case of
overtime, see the resolution establishing interment fees.
(h) Hillside memorial Park reserves, and shall have the right to
correct any errors which may be made in making interments, disinterments,
or removals, or in the description, transfer or conveyance of any inter-
ment property. Corrections may include the cancelling of a conveyance
and substituting and conveying in lieu thereof other interment property
of equal value and similar location insofar as is possible, or as may be
selected. by the Cemetery; or in the sole discretion of the Cemetery Sup-
erintendent, by refunding the amount of money paid on account of said

purchase. In the event the error shall involve the interment of the
remains of any person in such property, the Superintendent reserves, and
shall have, the right to remove and re-inter the remains in such other
property of equal value and similar location as may be substituted and
conveyed in lieu thereof.
(i) Hillside Memorial Park shall exercise due care in making a dis-
interment and removal, but shall assume no liability for damage incurred
to any casket, burial case, or urn in making the disinterment and re-
moval. Disinterments for removal from the Cemetery will not be made un-
less authorized by the written order of a court of law.
SECTION FIVE: Reports.
The Superintendent shall submit to the City Manager on or about the
first day of each month, a report of all cemetery transactions made
during the previous calendar month. This report will be in the form
prescribed by the City Manager.
SECTION SIX: That all other resolutions or parts of resolutions
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION SEVEN: This resolution will be effective March 7, 1967.
