A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE CHILDREN'S SPINE FOUNDATION
WHEREAS,orthopaedic spine surgeon,Dr.Thomas T.Haider,created the Children's Spine
Foundation to serve children in the Inland Empire by being the principal educator and provider of
spinal healthcare; and
WHEREAS,spine deformities and injuries affect scores of children each year and,when left
undetected and untreated,can lead to more severe health conditions,disfigurement,low self-esteem
and often can be life-threatening; and
WHEREAS, the Children's Spine Foundation, in cooperation with hospitals and medical
professionals, offers free surgical treatment to children with spine deformities and injuries who
would otherwise not seek corrective treatment because of prohibitive costs; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mission of the Children's Spine Foundation to help provide solutions
by increasing spinal healthcare awareness in the Inland Empire and medical institutions,developing
partnerships and programs with schools on spinal screening, assisting with access to medical care
and providing preventive healthcare workshops and seminars; and
WHEREAS,Dr.Thomas T.Haider,a medical philanthropist,pledged the royalties from his
patented invention to the UCR/UCLA Program in Biomedical Sciences; a gift that is expected to
exceed $5 million and could reach as high as $45 million in revenues to advance the cause of
medicine and enhance the health of our communities. As President of the Children's Spine
Foundation,he is dedicated and committed to increasing the quality of spinal healthcare to children;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands
recognizes the work of Dr. Thomas T. Haider and the Children's Spine Foundation and proclaims
March 12-16, 2001 as Children's Spine Foundation Week.
