A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF PAYMENTS TO THE CITY BY CREDIT CARD
WHEREAS, the use of credit cards is prevalent, convenient and a widely accepted method
for making payments by the public; and
WHEREAS, Government Code Section 6I59 permits cities and other public agencies to
accept credit cards for specified payments, and authorizes cities to enter contracts with credit card
issuers; and
WHEREAS, Government Code Section 6159 further permits cities to impose charges upon
persons who desire to make payments by credit cards to recoup any costs a city incurs in making the
use of credit cards available to the public; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands has determined that it is in the best
interests of the public and the City to authorize credit cards as a means of paying monies due to the
City; and
WHEREAS, this City Council has further determined that a fee should be imposed upon
persons making payment to the City by credit card equal to the costs incurred by the City when
accepting credit cards;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDLANDS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council hereby authorizes the City Treasurer and other City staff to
accept City monies by credit card for the following items specified by Government Code Section
6159:
1. The payment for the deposit of bail or for any fine for any offense not declared to be
a felony;
2. The payment of a filing fee or other court fee;
3. The payment of any towing or storage costs for a vehicle that has been removed
from a highway, or from public or private property as a result of parking violations;
4. The payment of child,family,or spousal support, including reimbursement of public
assistance, related fees, casts, or penalties with the authorization of the card holder;

5. The payment for services rendered by the City,
6. The payment of any fee, charge, or tax due to the City;
7. Any other purpose authorized by law.
Section 2. Prior to accepting any credit card payments, all necessary contracts with
appropriate credit card issuers shall be reviewed by the City for conformity with Government Code
Section 6159 and approved by the City Council and executed by the Mayor and Clerk.
Section 3. This City Council hereby establishes a fee to be charged persons who use credit
cards for City payments in an amount equal to the cost incurred by the City in making payment by
credit cards available to the public.
