RESOLUTION CONCERNING REIMBURSEMENT OF CITY COUNCIL REMB ERS FOR OUT-OF-
POCKET EXPENDITURES IN CONNECTION WITH CITY BUSINESS .
CITY
WHEREAS , the business of the City of Redlands requires its Mayor,
Vice-Mayor and Councilmen to incur expenditures for which they have not
been reimbursed in the past ; and
WHEREAS , these out-of-pocket expenses are in excess of the monthly
salary received by each of them; and
WHEREAS , the Redlands Chamber of Commerce studied the inequity of
requiring City Council members to expend personal funds to properly
carry out their duties of public office and made the following rec-
ommendations :
1. "This imposition of an unwarranted economic burden upon each
of these public-spirited men is needless and unnecessary . "
2. "It is the practice of other communities to reimburse council-
men for expenses incurred in the line of official duty. "
3. "The Redlands Chamber of Commerce strongly urges the City
Council of the City of Redlands to instruct the City Attorney

to vigorously investigate all legal ways and means to alleviate
this needless burden; and to take the necessary steps to provide
such reimbursement . "
WHEREAS , this City Council hereby finds and determines that the
business of the City of Redlands upon which Councilmen are properly
engaged always requires the expenditure of at least $100.00 each month
by the Mayor and Vice-Mayor and $75 .00 each month by the other members
of the City Council,-,,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redlands DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLO',IIS :
1 � That the out-of-pocket expenditures and costs of properly en-
gaging in the business of the City of ,Redlands and representing
the voters of said city each month amount to at least $100, 00
for the Mayor and Vice-Mayor and 875 .00 for the other members
of the council.
2That, beginning7%1_ovember 111
N 958, the Mayor and Vice-Mayor shall
receive $100.00 per month and the other members of the City
Council shall receive $75 . 00 per month as reimbursement for out-
of-pocket expenditures imposed by the proper exercise of the
duties imposed upon them as elected members of the legislative
body of the City of Redlands ®
3. That each of said amounts shall be paid monthly without pre-
sentation of any claim, and shall be in addition to any amount
paid on order of the City Council , upon a claim or demand , as
reimbursement for authorized traveling or other expenses when
on official duty.,
