A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
AUTHORIZING A GRANT APPLICATION FOR FUNDS
FROM SPECIAL OLYMPICS INTERNATIONAL
WHEREAS, the Redlands City Council is committed to
provided recreational opportunities to its entire population; and
WHEREAS, the Community Services Department has made, and
is currently making great strides in providing recreational
opportunities for the previously forgotten "special" population of
Redlands; and
WHEREAS, the Community Services Department is currently
spending approximately $5, 000 annually to provide leisure
opportunities for the local Special Olympics Program; and
WHEREAS, additional funding would increase the ability
of the Community Services Department to reach more individuals with
mental retardation, expand the number of high school and/or college
students mobilized to help with Special Olympics, increase
involvement of families of Special Olympians in helping to reach
out to individuals with mental retardation not currently involved
with Special Olympics, and seek out "hard to reach" (i .e. isolated
areas, minority populations, etc. ) individuals with mental
retardation; and
WHEREAS, the Special Olympics Community Outreach Grant
Program currently provides funds not to exceed $5, 000 to agencies
providing the programs and services for special population, as does
the Redlands Community Services Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Redlands hereby:
1 . Approves the filing of an application for the Special
Olympics Community Outreach Grant Program from Special
Olympics International ; and
2 . Certifies that said applicant understands the assurances
in the application form; and
3 . Certifies that said applicant has or will have sufficient
funds to operate and maintain the project(s) ; and
4 . Appoints the City Manager as agent of the City of
Redlands to conduct all negotiations, execute and submit
all documents, including, but not limited to
applications, agreements, amendments, payment requests
and so on, which may be necessary for the completion of
the aforementioned project.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 7th day of March 1989.
