HomeMy WebLinkAbout6870_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 6870 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AUTHORIZATING AN APPLICATION TO THE US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY FOR A RECOVERY ACT GRANT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF WASTE ENERGY RECOVERY SYSTEMS WHEREAS, grant funds have been made available from the US Department of Energy to solicit applications for cost-shared projects that will deploy sustainable energy infrastructure projects and energy efficient industrial technologies, and WHEREAS, the City of Redlands might seek to install a combined heat and power (CHP) fuel cell cogeneration system to produce 1,400 kW of electrical power at the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), and WHEREAS, this project is consistent with the City's adoption if the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement; and, WHEREAS, the successful implementation of a grant project will not only provide immediate benefit to the City in the form of an additional source of funding for a budgeted project, but will also provide extended benefits through increased energy independence of the City's wastewater treatment plant; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council hereby authorizes the submission of an application to the Department of Energy for a Recovery Act Grant Opportunity for the Deployment of Waste Energy Recovery Systems on behalf of the City. Section 2. The City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor, or any member of the City Council, to execute in the name of the City of Redlands all necessary applications, contracts, agreements and amendments for the purpose of securing grant funds; and the Municipal Utilities and Engineering Director, or her designee, to review, prepare and submit in the name of the City of Redlands all necessary payment requests, progress reports, and final reports to implement and carry out the purposes specified in the grant application.
