A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE
CALIFORNIA INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD FOR THE LOCAL
GOVERNMENT WASTE TIRE CLEANUP AND AMNESTY EVENT GRANT
PROGRAM
WHEREAS, grant funds are available to the City of Redlands through the California
Integrated Waste Management Board's Local Government Waste Tire Cleanup and Amnesty
Event Grant Program to fund the cost of cleanup, abatement and other remedial actions related to
the disposal of waste tires; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports 290 million scrap tires
were generated in 2008; and
WHEREAS, the cleanup and abatement of tires through recycling efforts will provide
immediate benefits to the City by conserving landfill space and mitigating illegal dumping
practices; and
WHEREAS, implementation of remedial actions for the proper disposal of waste tires
advances the goals of the City of Redlands as set forth in the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection
Agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF REDLANDS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Redlands hereby authorizes City staff to
submit an application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board for the Board's
Local Government Waste Tire Cleanup and Amnesty Event Grant Program.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Redlands further authorizes the Mayor or
any member of the City Council to execute, in the name of the City of Redlands, all necessary
applications, contracts, agreements and amendments for the purpose of securing the grant which
is the subject of this Resolution; and the Quality of Life Director or his designee to review,
prepare, and authorize in the name of the City of Redlands all necessary payment requests,
progress reports, and final reports to implement and carry out the purposes required for such
grant.
Section 3. The authorization provided to City staff and City Council members to
submit the application and execute documents is effective for a period not to exceed five (5)
years; specifically from January 19, 2010 through January 19, 2015.
