A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION
TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND FIRE
PROTECTION URBAN FORESTRY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, grant funds are available from the State of California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection Urban Forestry Program for the purchase and planting of trees in an
urban area; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Redlands is targeting tree planting efforts in all available vacant
sites throughout the City; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Redlands has been advancing its goal of increasing the amount
of trees present in the City to add to reduce the City's greenhouse gas emissions in conformance
with the City Council adopted U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement; and,
WHEREAS, the successful implementation of a grant project to plant trees in City Parks
and Parkways will advance the goals of the City to maintain and improve the aesthetic quality of
such parks and parkways;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. The City Council of the City of Redlands authorizes submission of an application
to the State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Urban Forestry Program for
a 2008/2009 "Green Trees for the Golden State" grant program.
2. The City Council of the City of Redlands authorizes and empowers the Mayor or
any member of the City Council to execute in the name of the City of Redlands all necessary
applications, contracts, agreements and amendments for the purpose of securing grant funds; and
the Quality of Life Department Director or his designee to review, prepare, and authorize in the
name of the City of Redlands all necessary payment requests, progress reports, and final reports
to implement and carry out the purposes specified in the grant application.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 18th day of November, 2008.
