HomeMy WebLinkAbout7348_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 7348 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ESTABLISHING THE MAYOR'S GREEN ACTION AWARD PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Mayor's Green Action Award was developed in 2009 to recognize local businesses for their environmental efforts; and WHEREAS, this award compliments the on-going efforts of Southern California Edison Partnership program, Mandatory Commercial Recycling(AB341), Beacon Award, and the Green Cities Challenge; and WHEREAS, to be proactive with Redlands City Values of Sustainability and to assist in meeting outreach goals and regulatory requirements, the Mayor's Green Action Award has been further enhanced to include a formal application process setting forth the comprehensive sustainability criteria for the program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS as follows: Section 1. Award Criteria To be considered for recognition, you must be a Redlands business demonstrating green action practices in each category below. The City recognizes that the size and type of your business reflects the overall impact and feasibility of the various sustainability measures listed below. Waste Reduction Energy Efficiency Pollution Prevention Water Conservation Recycling Transportation(if applicable) Purchasing Stakeholder Engagement(employees, customers, and/or suppliers) Based on the number of employees and size of your business, the following measures shall be completed overall. Small Business(1-50 employees): 10 measures; Medium Business(51-200 employees): 20 measures; Large Business(200+employees): 30 measures. Application The Mayor's Green Action Award Program includes an application that establishes comprehensive sustainability criteria for local businesses. This will assist local businesses with the various program and implementation measures available. The application must be completed by the local business and submitted to the Quality of Life Department. City staff will review the application for the number of measures implemented,which could include a site visit. Recognition Local businesses will receive formal recognition at a City Council meeting, which will include a presentation of a plaque(approximately$50 each)to be showcased at the business sire. The local business will also be acknowledged on the City's website. The City appreciates your active participation in this program and the sustainability efforts put forth by your business.
