RESOLUTION NO. 4242
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
DESIGNATING AN HISTORIC RESOURCE
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 1954 establishes rules and regulations
governing the designation, preservation and perpetuation of
historical and scenic properties; and
WHEREAS, the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission has
held a duly advertised public hearing to consider designating the
following as an historic resource:
Residence: Holt House
405 West Olive Avenue
Redlands, California
WHEREAS, the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission has
nominated the abovementioned property as a historic property in
accordance with procedures established in Ordinance No. 1954; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands had held a
duly advertised public hearing to consider the recommendation of
the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has found that the house located at
405 West Olive Avenue has exceptional historic and architectural
significance because it has an exceptionally unique design; because
it is an exceptionally good example of the Mission Revival style of
architecture; because it is the most notable work of F. T. Harris,
an exceptional Redlands architect; and because it was the residence
of W. F. Holt, who significantly contributed to the development of
the Imperial Valley in the State of California, and of Harold Bell
Wright, a best-selling novelist who significantly contributed to
the culture of the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Redlands as follows:
1. The following property is hereby designated as an
historic landmarks
Residence and Carriage Douses
405 West Olive Avenue (Holt Rouse)
Redlands, California
Legal Description:
Assessor' s Parcel No. 171-313-20
Exhibit A attached hereto and made a part
thereof.
. This historic property shall not be altered on the
exterior, moved, demolished, subdivided, or otherwise
permanently changed on the exterior until a Certificate
of Appropriateness has been secured.
3 . All provisions of Ordinance No. 1954, and any amend-
ments thereto, are in effect now and in the perpetual
future.
4 . The City Clerk of the City of Redlands is hereby
directed to cause a certified copy of this Resolution
to be recorded with the County Recorder, County of San
Bernardino..

The Land referred to herein is situated in the State of California,
County of San Bernardino, City of Redlands, and is described as
follows:
Lots 1 and 7 and the easterly one-half of Lot 2 in Block B of
Parkview Addition as per map recorded in Book 13 of Maps, Page 33,
in the Office of the County Recorder of said county.
Also that portion of Lot 2, Block B of Parkview Addition, as per
map recorded in Book 13 of Maps, Page 33 , records of said county,
described as follows:
Beginning at a paint on the southerly line of said Lot 2, distant
31 feet westerly from the southeast corner of said lot; thence
westerly along the southerly line of said Lot 2, a distance of 20
feet; thence at right angles northerly 20 feet; thence at right
angles eaterly parallel to the southerly line of said Lot 7, a
distance of 20 feet, thence at right angles southerly 20 feet to
the point of beginning.
Also that portion of Lot 6, Block B of Parkview Addition, as per
map recorded in Book 13 of Maps, Page 33 , records of said county,
described as follows.
Beginning at the southeast corner of said Lot 6. thence northerly
65 feet; thence westerly 22 feet; thence southerly 65 feet; thence
easterly 22 feet to the paint of beginning.
